since the TC thread brought up the issue of BV....

BV is intended to reduce a 'Mech's overall effectiveness to a single number for quick-reference, making it much easier to balance a battle/scenario involving 'Mechs of different sizes or tech levels. In a general sense, I think it succeeds.

However, as we all know, certain items are over- or undervalued, or certain weapons or equipment, in combination, become much greater than the sum of their parts. Specialty 'Mechs tend to be like this...the Awesome for example, or the fast TC+multiple-light-weapon boat.

So....which weapons or equipment is overvalued, and which are undervalued? What are the loopholes in the system that allow a 'Mech to be munch more effective than BV would indicate?

undervalued: any overheating weapon system, particularly one that relies on a layered attack strategy or one that incorporates a ludicrous number of flamers. Armor.

Overvalued: weapons that do 12 or more points of damage and hit in single clusters.

Eh. Also overvalued: Jump Jets.

And, of course, the fact that it ADDS offensive and defensive rather than MULTIPLYING them causes anything with an imbalance between the two to be overvalued.
