BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Charger CGR-4S Tech: Inner Sphere / 3067 Config: Biped BattleMech Rules: Level 3, Standard design
Mass: 80 tons Chassis: Wells 990 Standard Power Plant: 400 LTV XL Fusion Walking Speed: 54,0 km/h Maximum Speed: 86,4 km/h Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor Type: Durallex Heavy Standard Armament: 4 ER Medium Lasers 1 Heavy Gauss Rifle 1 Guardian ECM Manufacturer: Wells Technologies Location: (Unknown) Communications System: Tek BattleCom Targeting & Tracking System: Dalban HiRez
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== As the Fed Com Civil war reached a climax, the call for new mechs became ever more pressing. The Lyrian Alliance was forced to recall even mothballed machines to keep up numbers.
Among these were about 20 of the much maligned Charger, deemed obsolete, they had been traded for newer machines and cannibalized for spare parts, but Steiner engineers rapidly came up with an unpgrade package, making use of the new Heavy Gauss Rifle and turning the former laughing stock of the Inner Sphere into a very dangerous fighting machine.
==Capabilities:== The 4S version retains the speed and armour of the original, but gives it the massive punch of a Heavy Gauss Rifle, backed up by a brace of lasers. An ECM helps shield it from more advanced enemy weapon systems.
The Charger is a good support and close assault mech, capable of closing in fast with Assault and Heavy mechs and capable of standing up to all but the heaviest foes.
No longer used for reconnaissance, except with assault lances, this charger is now one of the most potent versions ever designed.
==Battle History:== The Charger 4S has seen limited action. Often thrown in desperate battles, several Chargers made a good account of themselves and fought quite well.
On one occasion a Charger engaged a Davion Templar and destroyed it with a number of well-aimed torso shots.
Unfortunately with only a few dozen mechs available, the Charger is doomed to remain an obscure footnote in mech history.
==Variants:== Only one single Charger 4S variant has been recorded. It drops the Heavy Gauss Rifle in favour of a regular weapon with 3 tons of ammo and upgrades the medium lasers to a single ER PPC. This jury rigged machine suffers from many occasional malfunctions. During a fight, it lost control of all its weapons and the pilot was forced to eject. Captured by Davion forces it is currently being studied at the NAIS in the hope of upgrading old Davion Chargers to a new standard.
==Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:== Mechwarrior Lucy Ford Heiress to "Lucky" Ford's machine, her old, battered Charger has been upgraded to a 4S. Sharing her grandfather's legendary luck, she has fought in many engagements, employing hit and run tactics and using her Heavy Gauss Rifle to snipe at enemy mechs and then disengaging rapidly.
==Deployment== The Charger 4S can be found in Steiner controlled areas. One has been captured by Davion loyalists.

Like the fluff, so don't get me wrong, But wasn't there already an upgrade to the charger (ie 3050 TRO specs). Might include a cost/ benefit reason why they were mothballed instead of refited.
My other consern is the Heavy Gauss Rifle. I don't like it, it is to much of a gimic weapon in my mind.
A strait up AC-20 and a few extra heat sinks would do just fine.
Just my thoughts. Dester

Sure they have upgraded the Charger, hell they even have reworked it, but the Heavy Gauss is something that Stenier would be all over since they get their heavy assault units with a big bang for the buck and given that it's new tech it has all the more appeal to their vainity of being the ones to have it and use it first etc...

As someone who prides themselves as a Steiner Loyalist in just about every RPG I've been in, I endorse this variant as Lyran thinking for whatever thats worth... Sure, the HGR "is" a Gimmick, but more importantly, its a LYRAN Gimmick... Not a Drac Launcher, not a Davie Autocannon... The HGR is Theirs, and anywhere they can find to put it (now thats not an open statement if I've ever written one) is probably alright with them....
That aside... A 5/8 Assault 'Mech with a Heavy Gauss Rifle? If the MechWarrior has a half-decent Piloting Skill, this thing is a potential nightmare... It has the HGR, and the Ability to get in close with it - the Fafnir's Failure. I'll be taking it, trying it out. Besides, for Shock value, most 'Mechwarriors would say "Oh, its just a Charger..." Then 'Bam'...
I like it... Definately like it...

Anything done with the Charger in an improvement. The mech was a joke from the start. At least with a 400 XL something can be done with it.
Drasnighta I agree with you that its a good improvement. Not because its from the backwards state Lyran. But its fixing a bad mech. Now if the people of Lyran would have just knew there place and stayed good little lapdogs Davien would have conquered the other states and the Star League would now be back. Its just to bad that some people just don't know there place!
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.

Aren't you forgetting the small matter that the one to split the states apart was one Katherine Steiner Davion?

What are you, a Davion follower, or a Kurita one? Seeing as no one in his right mind would call the Lyrans "Davion lapdogs" without deliberately wanting to drive them away, because that is the very thing they do not either want to seen as, nor be.

Thou am pro Davion but I am not a Davion citizen. I am my own ruler of my own solar system.
