==Overview:==
The Merlin began life as what could be called an assault transport. The idea
behind this was for a VTOL that could support infantry and armor as well as
mechs, with suppression support fire and high speed recon. Product development
proceeded but issues soon arose.

Several designers at SysRam wanted the Merlin to also carry a contingent of
recon troops as well as the new recon becon pods that SysRam had just finished
selling to the CAAF and several other security groups and merc units. The
added weight and cost was pointed out as something that wasn't needed for the
Merlin to preform its' intented role. This soon led to a second arguement over
the armament that the Merlin would be carrying. One group argued that the
Merlin had been fitted with quad FA 45 machine guns and didn't need the long
range or even short range missile systems as original purposed. The other
group argued that spreading the Merlin's capabilites too thin would make it
preform in a mediocre degree on all levels. After six months of tests, it was
showing the at the Merlin with both the quad machine guns and the long range
missiles outpreformed the other variant that had solily the machine guns and
troops.

==Battle History:==
Seeing combat in the Travus Rebellion, on the jungle world of Orin III, where
local religous fantics and rogue traders had staged a coup and began to
"re-educate" the planet.

The CAAF landed their rapid deployment group nicknamed the "The Legion of the
Damn", mainly do to it's make up of penal troops and foreign troops, on to
Orin III with orders to free the world, capture the leaders of the rebellion
and to destroy the rebels ability to wage another rebellion.

The Legion began to fight it's way into the to the jungle towns only to find
that as they did, the enemy would attack the slow moving forces and cause
major damage and after several weeks ground the whole action to a halt.

Seeing that her command was being sucked into a no win situation, Col. Tarasha
Gohoivo soon organized her gunships and aerofighters into hunter killer teams.
The Merlins would go in and flush out the enemy when they attacked the ground
troops and the aerofighters would come in hard on the heels of the Merlins
attack runs. These tactics caught the enemy off guard and cost them several
units in as many days. Using the tactic in conjuntion several landings at
other hotspots on the planet, soon brought the enemy to their knees and after
a year of fighting the guerilla movement was wiped out.
