------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The ultra light mech that came to be known as the MTF-3N Mastiff is a rarity in the Inner Sphere, first seen during the later part of the fighitng against the Word Of Blake and the rebellion in the Terran System.
Footage captured from downed mechs during salvage operations show images of a mech that prowled the battlefields darting in as other mechs pummeled their oppeants in order to bring them down quicker, always these Mastiffs worked in groups of 3 to 6. Other footage show them rampaging through infantry and light armor formations, like a pack of rabid dogs.

Do they allow quad this light? For some stupid reason, I see this as a quad mech.
A little slow for a 'darting' mech. The sword looks nice, but the weight of the mech seems like it wouldn't be that effective. Granted any physical attack would be light for the most part. I know it is difficult to get things they way you would like it, but the speed verses the armor, makes me thing without a distraction, this would die quickly to even a 20 ton mech. And that isn't talking range. Most anywhere on the mech, and ML would penetrate.
But it is an ultra light mech, so there isn't much you can really do to armor it.

I think ultra-lights are just too fragile. A good protomech is better than an ultralight because their armor is more concentrated I suppose? A mech has many more hit locations to spread armor on. Especially a slow ultralight like this one would die quickly in a fight against 90% of protomech designs.
Now, crazy-fast ultralights can be interesting, they can get to speeds protos can't match. Indeed only like a VTOL with both a supercharger and a jet-booster could match a crazy fast ultralight with a supercharger and MASC.

And I think Protomechs are really nothing more then Bryan Nystul's slam on the older fan base of the game, since it seemed he had dislike of anything that came before his tenure as Line Developer.
Protos are not well thought out nor do they work well in the game, the idea of heavier power armor is great but not how it was done. And I think your idea of this dying against Protos 90% of the time to be a pipe dream.
