Okay here is a topic to toss around and see what we can come up with.

Could Laio have taken a large chunk of the FWL or caused them to fall back and fall apart?

One factor in this is House Davion working it's tricks and such as it was prior to the shift in who it's main enemy was. There is talk about this in the old House Marik and House Davion House Books.

So was it possible for the CapCon to have a chance at taking part of or most of the border worlds in Marik Space? Or would such an attack broken the CapCon in many nation states to fall at leisure to the Davions and Marik attacks?

Please give your full reasons on this.

Impossible: Marik would have to support the duchy of andurien. If one falls without the utmost best of the CG to hold it, why would the other member states even consider remaining under the CG leadership?

Therefore, the full weight of the FWL would be deployed; with a warlike state like the FS in the back, no way even Romano would have decided to do so, let alone Maximilian who was blessed with more sanity.

What if: A lot of the CCAF would be tied up, border with the FS would be depleted: Some planet grabs there. FWL would go full out, so unlikely to capture a lot there either, couple of planets max.

In the end, the more hated FS would grow vs a less hated FWL would shrink minimal.
Rather to blow up, then.

No. Liao lost huge chunks of territory to the FWL throughout the Succession Wars - Liao lost about a quarter of its Star League-era territory to each the FWL and the FS. By 3025, Liao only mustered about 2/3 the military strength of the FWL and was almost completely on the defensive.

Indeed, Max Liao's strategies to deal with the FWL and FS were based completely on Liao's military weakness. Instead of attacking the FWL (or FS), Max Liao incited a civil war in the FWL. This wasn't so that he could conquer FWL worlds (or even former CC worlds held by the FWL), but so that he could reduce FWL attacks on the CC, get some mech plans, and keep the FWL off the CC's back for a decade or tow.

He was well on his way to doing the same in the FS, too. He never hoped to conquer squat - his dealings with Michael Hasek-Davion actually planned to shift several valuable border worlds into Capellan March hands.

No, what Max thought the Capellan Confederation was capable of doing was tricking other nations into breaking up and becoming as weak as the Confederation, at which point he could declare himself First Lord of the Star League. The Liao Sourcebook goes into this in some detail.

No way, no how. The Caps had their own problems on the Davion border to think about attacking Marik. Hanse was brilliant in using "manuvers" and war games to first lull his enemy and then move his people into place for the suprise attack. As it is, Liao threw as much as they could at the Davion border to stall the advance. They were very likely weak on the Marik side so any attacks would be weak and easily destroyed. If they had split forces and tried to defend on the Davion side and attack on the Marik side, the CapCon would be smaller than the FRR is now.

The question would better be asked, could Marik have taken out Liao?

Read it again, and if you could try reading the stuff in the Davion sourcebook about Mairk being a bigger threat to Davion then Laio.

Which I pointed out that if Davion had weaken Mairk then would it be possible for Laio to go after Mairk...so with that in mind, re-read the question and apply the above to it.

Noting again that I mentioned ANY time period and also since a lot of folks seem to have missed it, I did mention that if Davion continued with his actions against Marik, would that have help or not...remember PRIOR to novels coming out, aka Sword and Dagger and the Warrior triology, Mairk was Davions big boggie man in the Laio/Mairk/Davion border region NOT Laio.

If you go and read the Davion and Mairk house books, the originals, you will find that Mairk was having more issues with Davion underminding it then Davion worrying about the CapCon. So with that in mind and if you re-read the question and the rest of the posting, you will find I did mention this. Now adding that to the picture, does that change anything or do you still feel Laio would lose?
