What would it take for a fake mercenary unit to be formed, and be able to operate through Outreach or Galatea?

Does the MBRC do background checks? If so, do they have access to any of WolfNet's resources?

Would it just be as simple as the founding members each taking Alternate Identity?

How common is it for a Great House to set up a fake unit to take contracts given by their enemies, and the unit then does some spying and sabotage?

Trying to set up a false merc unit is almost akin to an IS Aerojock trying to win at arm wrestling with a Ghost Bear Elemental.

The Wolf's Dragoons do some of the most extensive investigations on every merc unit they take in, right down to who their techs and medics are. If you fool them at first, it may work for all of around a week, maybe two. Then there is about a nintey nine percent chance that they will find out the dupe, and immediatly begin handing out bounty hunting contracts to have the offenders brought in, to be questioned and possibly detained.

While the unit would be non-canon, gnome is specifically asking about background checks etc.

Also something that doesn't seem to be covered is that generally I believed that once Wolf's Dragoons opened up Outreach and the duplicity of Comstar was revealed that Galatea wasn't a area where houses looked to employ a merc unit (well at least for above board missions).

What I'm asking is this:

Suppose a House unit of Covert Ops or Special Forces gets an assignment to go into enemy territory and do some spying/sabotage/theft, and they decide to create a mercenary unit as a means of cover. What would the initial obstacles be to passing themselves off as a new merc unit and getting hired?

I suppose an alternate route would be to find a real mercenary unit who has just been awarded such a contract and try to get recruited by them.
