I feel sorry for the kids in America who get it done but are too young for anesthesia. My mom's a nurse in L&D and she refuses to assist on those "procedures." They basically tie the poor boy down and just start cutting. She said the babies would sometime scream so much they would turn purple.

It is hard to describe sufficiently the outrage I feel at such wanton mutilation.

The last part brought a chuckle to my lips. Though I have no doubt the offer was an honest one.

The "best" part is how some people look at the whole thing. There are some fathers, I've been told, who get upset when the nurse or doctor pricks the boy's foot to get a blood sample but as soon as the nurse or doctor asks about giving him the circumsion they say, "Oh sure go right ahead." Make sense of that.

Then there's the folks who say, oh they're just babies they won't remember it at all. But I put it to you that to cause that kind of pain in that area at such an age is bound to cause deep scars upon the boy's subconscious.

Well my point was the subconscious scars that would be left, not the memory itself. And no, I don't remember it but then I was old enough for general anesthsia when it was done.

"Wanton mutilation"?

Hmph. If I have a son, I think I'd rather have him circumcised as a baby than make him experience it as a boy.

Seems to me that if you're going to have it done, better you have it done at a time when you will never remember it.

I guess I'm just glad my first child was a girl.
