TRO3055U Mechs...
      #114567 - 09/23/05 09:37 PM (67.79.53.10)

So what do you folks think of the update/revised TRO3055?

I think Plog did okay redrawing the older TRO3055 mechs, again he does well in this area. Some still have his issue with scale, some do look like battlearmor but they aren't too bad.

The Phoniex-ed mechs well they could have been done better, but I guess they are okay...still not sure why some of them got redone at all but that is a whole another discussion and one that leave more questions then answers.

The "redone" aerofighters are decent. They actually LOOK like the originals. Then we have the Solairs 7 mechs....nice artwork for the most part, but some of the tech makes them well to expensive and to impartical IMHO. Then again some do make very nice line mechs. A couple don't seem to come out in Pro as they are in the TRO, but then again that could be changes made to some of the Solaris weapons made during the building of the TRO.

One thing I really did like was the return to the format of the Original TRO3025 for the fluff. The notiable pilots and events added color and flavor to the mechs and made them seem to be part of the universe. Also I liked that the original versions did get mentioned in the variant or capaibiltes section which again shows that some did do their homework on this and again kept the mechs grounded in the universe.

Overall the book is decent and worth the money, even if it's a tad pricey at $29.99 but it does give you a lot for the money.

Now if they would only have the RS book to go with it, but alas someone convinced WK and FP that Record Sheet books like Scenario packs don't so sell so we won't likely see a RS book for this TRO, BUT if they actually do put one out, I know I will be getting two of them as will the folks in my group, since that is how a lot of them do things for stuff like this, one to have on the shelf as the collection copy and the other for use as the copy that get's beat to death for the photocopying and the loaning out etc...

So let's here what you folks liked or didn't like about this book.

Karagin, you lucky dog! I haven't been able to find the new book , but I will look for it today at my local hobby store! Once I get it, I will give you my views. As far as going back to the original format, one of the PM's Battlechats covers this. Randall said that they didn't do notable pilots etc. on the last few because the mechs were brand new. With the 3055U TRO he was able to, since the mechs had been in use for a while, leading to pilots gaining experience in them.

I can understand the new mechs not having them but something could have been done to add more color and flavor to the mechs. Wow that sounds like I am talking about ice cream LOL!

Good luck finding it.

Looked at it in the hobby store, but $30 seems a bit steep for an era I don't play.

The art and design is good. Fluff seems more in-depth than some books.

A must-have if you play that era. I may break down and get it later.

The mechs aren't just for that time period, they can be used in the current time frame. As for playing only 3025 time frame, some of them can be down graded and make decent mechs for that era.

I do agree the price is high, but you are getting a lot this time for the price.

Here is hoping that if they redo 3058 we get at least a similar decently good book out of it...

Now if they would only redo 3025 and give us better art work for the 2750 mechs as well as the stats for them as 2750 mechs that would be a bonus as well...

Sorry for not replying sooner... I didn't get to the hobby store after all. I might get a chance this week.
