Firing arc question
      #120561 - 11/18/05 04:55 AM (24.22.240.232)

I'm not really a newb, but I figured this was the best place to ask about something I've been wondering about for a while.
What exactly are the areas each firing arc covers? It seems to be slightly different from battletech rules. Specifically, the border between the side and back arcs seems to be a little different.
This is how I'm used to the arcs being:
(unit facing up of course)

is that wrong or is neveron just screwing up with the firing arcs sometimes?

In Neveron you mech Dosent Twist its toroso like some other Battletech games so if u have no Ra weponds you cant fire, anything on the torosos or on the left arm, only the head weponds really do that twists thing. in that diagram if ure facing the red U can fire at the Red and Orange but cannot fire at any Yellow, unless u have RRT RCT or RLT weponds and Ra weponds. I appreciate your attempt to answer my question, but I wasn't talking about torso twists. In fact, my problems occur mostly when in vehicles.

Anyway, torso twists ARE in the game, you just don't get to choose when you twist, the game assumes for you which way you're twisting. I know because I've used them before.

Can someone please answer my original question? Is that how the firing arcs are set up?

I thought is WAS like that picture. That is usually the arcs my firing range is when I fire weapons in a vehicle OR mech. You may just be overthinking it.

Well, RA weapons are able to fire in the left to rear direction, which it shouldn't.. Is really bad when you think: Aha, that ur-r60l cannot fire it's ac in that direction, lets get there (boom!)

So if it's arm-mounted, think of it as in a turret. (Tho to the rear it's working allright.)

isn't the rear arc actually smaller than shown in that picture?

If the target is just inside the right edge of the rear arc (as I currently see it) it will sometimes tell me its in my right arc. This can be very annoying when I'm using a vehicle with its turret locked in the rear arc. I've lost a couple of vehicles because of this. I haven't seen it happen with the left side, but its possible that it happens there too.

Of course, Neveron may have a smaller rear arc than Battletech, which is why I was asking this question.

(While we're on the subject, the odd mech firing arcs are because a right arm weapon can be fired in the left arc if you torso twist left, and vice-versa, so Neveron assumes you've already twisted in the correct direction, and you can shoot backwards if you have a RA weapon and twist right. The same should be true for the left side, but Neveron isn't smart enough to know when you want to twist left to shoot backwards with your left arm. The only thing actually wrong is that you can shoot rear and arm weapons at the same time; you should have to choose one or the other. Other than that, Neveron mechs are pretty well done.)
