Isn't it a tad expensive for higher level empires to participate in FFA? 100-mil for a level 8 is kinda steep.
If it was purposely designed this way and has a reason then I'd to know what it is and how it fits.
Just curious is all. Not so much trying to attack.

Was originally started for the lower level empires (new players) to get experience at using different units and allow them to put into practice the help files concerning combat without risking their empries in LW while trying to learn.
In short larger empires were not suppose to go into FFA all the time a drain the pot just to get easy money. Is why it is so expensive. I know Admin can explain things better than I but that is the long and short of it that I understood FFA to be.

bah, effectively it favours the bigger empires. Not that bad, as the random distribution in bv is wide enough, but it's the principle that I disagree with a bit.

It is this way because FFA is mostly a way for low level empires to get combat experience and learn the battle system while being exposed to various units. Also the higher your level the better the units you will get a possibility of having (both in unit quality and unit skill).
A level 8 is likely to get a very good skilled medium mech or a pretty good heavy/assualt. As a result it is very easy for them to sit on the top of the ranking compaired to lower level empires, and thus they have to pay more so that in order to make a proffit off of the FFA they must do well for a pretty long period of time.

FFA good!
It is a great way for low lvl emps to make some research possible, and get experience. If the higher lvl emps were able to pay equally then they would naturally dominate the FFA (because of more experience and time in game). Since the FFA is meant as a trainer/TP dropper, that is the reason for a sliding pay for play scale.
I would say though that I hope with the new quest system, that there will be a higher TP drop rate to keep people paying to play.

Put a low level FFA for emps 1-5, Mid level for emps 6-8 and high level for emps 9+. Each with varying sized prizes for the leaders in the FFA. Also different BV distribution for each class of FFA and different entry costs. So the Mid and Higher level emps get a lower prize but also pay less. While the lower level emps pay the same, but get a bigger prize. Problem Solved.

Okay BigBoss what are you doing? You know logical thinking is not allowed here. So stop it. "slap" Wake up right now!
Actually a good idea. It will give everyone a place to wander into and visit with other people in the nev community. There have been alot of good idea lately. Hopefully some will be taken to heart and used.

too few participants to split the ffa. Duels are the other tab.

Basically you are suggesting something similar to 2nd Arena system that nev had, the class system, but in that case it was by unit class ..
This would be empire class... umm I'd tend to agree there is probably too few participants Currently (this may increase though with reduced costs).
At the moment when big pots are around you might see 50 units in the ffa but generally it is less than 20.
The FFA is really boring when it gets down to less than 10 participants.... especially if you have ended up in a 2/3 speed unit.
On a side note I would like to see the map change more often, monthly??

Other scenario, king of the hill! Payout is based on lvl height. 50,50 is 9, zones surrounding 8 etc. No cover.
