Decommissioning Mechs

I appoligize if this has been brought up before.
With the rules now for vehicles concerning the lose of skill points for both scrapping and decoming the vehicle plus the lose of rep for decoming I fail to see why mechs cannot now be decommissioned as well. It would still cost some rep., lose of skills and a full year worth of maint. fees.
Honestly I think it would stimulate not only the salvage mech market as the decommissioned mechs could be sold there but it would also give players a good reason for upgrading from light/med mechs up to the more expensive heavy and eventually Assault mechs. I think this would be good for the game overall.

I think the admins don't want us buying a large mech with an empire, then selling it to a lower empire. Say a lv1-2 with an Imp, which yes is possible, but takes awhile to save or donatation. If they did allow us to decommission I would imagine we couldn't see them.

If that were done, those of us who make billions of dollars every real day would quickly buy up the entire market with a bunch of 8/8 pilots, decomm the mechs, and only sell them to our friends. This would result in mechs on the open market very rarely. It would also result in only our buddies with nice LW empires having new mechs to go trounce on everyone else with who couldn't replace their losses. Currently there are quite a few empires capable of producing mechs, and more are well on their way and the mechs are getting bigger and bigger. There will soon be 2 45 ton designs on the market. The current system works fine.

ahhhhhhhh yeah right thats why the usa sells our old stuff to any one who wants it? you should be able to sell the mechs but there should be a cap on how cheap you could that get rid of the mechs for, this would stop a bunch of lvl2 guys running around with a bunch of assault mechs. if you had like no infra you could have 1-2 assault mechs and mothball your others

The problem with the salvage market is that if someone salvages a mech, they either commission it themselves or sell it to a guy in their faction for cheap. Thus there are two sorts of salvage put on the market:
1) Ridiculously cheap organised selling 2) Ridiculously expensive "yaah I killed your mech" boasting.
I'd personally suggest a cap in $ of last drop of that mech, eg you couldn't sell a BJ-1DB for more than whatever the last price it dropped on the mech market for, which is about $90mil.

Or we could just leave it alone since it works fine. If players wish to upgrade their pilot to a new mech without scrapping they can. It's quite simple and i've been doing it for three and a half years. Get a guy that's unassigned. Then claim the guy in the mech. make him your active person. buy him a new mech. Voila, the unassigned guy is in the old mech now and can be trained, the old guy is in his upgraded mech, and now you have 2 mechs not 1. Or use the new training system so you don't even have to buy the light shitty mech in th first place. There is no reason to change this, it's a simple procedure, and they have better things to do then fix something that isn't broken...again.

Could set it up so decommisioned mechs show up on the mech buying page for $0, like mechs you DP'd for. This would prevent peeps from selling them.
Of course the admin would have to put in a drawback to decomming a mech, like skill loss. Otherwise it becomes too easy to jump levels (at low level) and keep mechs from being attacked between LW's.

this idea has been discussed to death for years. below is a similar idea that i presented in late 2004.
Pilot Roster post
in other similar posts, the idea was shot down because it would unbalance the game and remove what little BT roleplaying is left because everyone would put all of their best pilots into the heaviest mechs they own, so the smaller mechs would only have 3rd rate pilots at best. the admins don't want this, which is why the current system hasn't been changed since i started playing this game.

I had taken into account that skill lose was naturally assumed. Since that is happening to vehicles any way. As for the "unblancing the game". Not like mechs are much of a everyday use as it is correct? And of course everyone who can would shift their better pilots to heavier mechs. We do that anyway. Well is what it is. Just thought I would through it back out with all the changes was all.
