Terrain Levels
      #130076 - 04/28/06 11:03 PM (128.180.237.131)

I understand that this will be a difficult question to tackle in a post, but, if you're feeling up for a challenge...

Could someone please explain how line-of-fire works for terrain levels? Why can't you hit a tank hiding in a whole? How deep would the hole have to be? How far away the edge of a ridge must you be to be safe from things below you? Those types of questions.

Or you can just let this post die and I'll figure things out as I play more...

I am probably off in a few details, but you can start with my limited knowledge. Vehicles are 1 level tall. 'Mechs are 2 levels tall. If the intervening terrain between you and the target is at least as tall as the target (or taller), then you won't see the target. The exception would be if you are adjacent to the intervening terrain and it's only as tall as the target.

There used to be this great page on the explanation of LOS. Think Kit or some other great vet made it. No idea where it is now. Hope it helps!

Nevs LoS is very weird and as already mentioned does not go off of BT rules. Usually though if it looks like you should have LoS you will. There are some funky situations where that is not the case though.
