Can someone tell me what does a training facility do and how do you get it to work? Thanks.

It allows you to train soldiers without using a vehicle. It also allows you to select which skills are to be checked and how many times you want the checked (possibly skilldowned).

I have only just started one and it seems good.

The question is not how far, the question is do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far as needed?

To build Training Facilities you must have CF 75 buildings and Training Techniques 1 researched. Training Facilities cost $10 million to commission and will allow you to train 10 (I think this is 12 now, as I am able to train 12 per building, but it may also be attached to level of Training Technique you have researched) unassigned soldiers for up to 20 Nevdays per level of Training Techniques you have researched.

Once you have it researched and built, got to Training->Soldiers tab, and pick out 10 you want to train, pick the skills you want them to train in, and the number of skill checks you want them to get, click the big Train Soldiers button, click Yes if you have enough cash to train them.

hope this helps a bit

Does anyone know what effect researching the extra levels has? I'm wondering how far I should research it for now (I'd say I have a fairly high research capacity for my level, but I'm still low level).

The higher the Training Technique level, the more Skill Checks per training session you can add.

At Training Techniques 4, max Skill Checks per training session is 20, over a 100 day period of training. If anyone else has higher levels research, pleas post increments/amount it went up. As far as I know, cost is not affected, but I may be mistaken in this, as I didnt pay alot of attention to costs when I was poking around with it.

Cost goes down every 5 training checks so training for longer periods of time is indeed cheaper.

Outside of training 'mech skills easily without the hassle of moving pilots around 'mechs, I can't see a positive use for the Training Facility.

.....Old way.....
Buy 1 Jeep (any variety) ~ $400,000
Hire 2 soldiers (8 skill) = $10,000
Train vehicle for 44 days = $550,000
Decide soldiers are poo and want to drop them in favor of 2 new soldiers
Decommision cost ~ $90,000
Total Cost ~ $1 mil

.....New way.....
Assume Training Facility already researched/built
Hire 2 soldiers (8 skill) = $10,000
Train just 1 skill on both soldiers for 20 days = $1.25mil
No cost to fire if soldiers are poo
Total Cost ~ $1.25mil (for half the training)

Unless the TFac gives some extra chances to skill down, it's economically useless to use for vehicle skills. Granted, there's a cost reduction beyond the first 5 skill checks, but at 10 skill checks (40 days) the cost is still over $1.2mil per soldier for one vehicle skill - that's twice the cost of the old way and I still have the vehicle I can re-use!!

Comments? Am I missing something here? Possibly an empire-level dependent discount?
