In order to bolster his second line forces the Khan of Clan Cloud Cobra ordered Brian Caches to be opened, and old designs evaluated for use with new technology. After a year of testing and evaluating the ease of refit, the Clan decided upon the Battlemaster for the first assault class 'mech to be refit. The SRM-6 was replaced with an ATM-6, changing the role of the missile launcher in the design from an extra close-in punch to long-range support of the ER PPC. The Medium Lasers were upgraded with new heavy laser technology. To compensate for their inherant innaccuracy a targeting computer was installed, but even this marvel of technology strains to keep up if all four front facing lasers are fired. Finaly, the machineguns were retained, and the troublesome ammo feed from the left torso simplified, with the bins now in directly under the weapons they feed.
Intial reports of the design in combat are favorable, even though only five 'mechs have been refit. The Battlemaster IIC has seen action against both the Coyotes and the Steel Vipers. On Babylon, Star Commander James of the 441st Cobra Guards fought a battle against Star Colonel Dyson Clearwater, commander of the 98th Strike Cluster over a former Smoke Jaguar enclave. The battle raged for hours with Star Colonel Clearwater keeping James at bay with the large lasers on his Cannis. Eventualy Star Commander James used his Battlemaster's superior speed and manuverablity to close in and bring his HE ATM rounds and lasers to bear. One of James' lasers burrowed deep into Clearwater's ammo bins, gutting the torso and shutting down the already damaged reactor.

Mmmmmm. Tasty! A bit on the spendy side, but hey, that's what happens when you use higher-level techs. Overall, it's a very nice refit. Great work!

Yeah, I did a just for fun version with an XL engine with more HS and some pulse lasers that topped out at over 20 mil. This seems a bargain. But that is FASAnomics for you.

I'm not a fan of heavy medium lasers. They're so inaccurate that pulse mediums usually outperform them, except at very low target numbers.
And the Clan LRMs usually match ATMs for the same tonnage, but without requiring multiple ammo types to achieve the same performance, so I prefer CLRMs.
OTOH, it's a very 3067-ish Clan refit that shows normal military thinking: mount the coolest toys, not necessarily the best ones. A good 'mech design (from a player's stand point) isn't necessarily the one with the most firepower but the one that adheres to the setting, so "Good job!"
