RACs are like Ultra ACs, but can fire at single speed, double speed (2x), quadruple speed (4x), or sextuple speeds (6x).

Like the UAC, you use the appropriate missile column to figure out how many shots hit if firing faster than single speed (2 missile column, 4 column, 6 column).

RACs jam on an attack roll of 2 (for double speed), 3 (quadruple speed), and 4 (6x speed). Unlike UACs, RACs can be unjammed on a piloting skill roll of +3.

Each shot that strikes a target hits a different location, like SRMs. HOWEVER, if you have a Targeting Computer and make a called shot, all the shots that hit will hit that one location.

RACs are available only in RAC/2 and RAC/5. The RAC/2 is useless - it's too heavy for the damage it does (8 tons, 4 crits - I think 4 crits - 1 heat/shot, and range 6/12/18). Take an LRM or PPC instead of a RAC/2. The RAC/5 is nice - 10 tons, 6 crits, 1 heat/shot, 5/10/15.

They're Inner Sphere weapons, primarily Davion.

What about the Level 3 Clan RACs? Same rules?

Something like it, yes. I try to forget about CRACs. They're a MechForce UK product, not something that appeared in a FASA/FanPro rule book.

Did crac's not also go bigger bore (10-20), better heat, weight, range, as usual?

RAC/2 can have it's uses as medium range vehicle immobilisator. Tho LBX is far superior in that role.

I need to get me some new battletech books, and possibly try to find some less beat up copies of the ones I tore up from playing so much.

Yes, they did.

Yes. You can make the RAC/2 work. Like the LGR, it's an effective weapon, but not the most effective weapon.

is, there a reason or is it more, if they did no one would use standard ACs over the hose factor of a rac?

oldfashioned ac's do have the special davion ammo loads, like presicion and armour-piercing.

I prefer an oldfashiond ac/20 over a new lbx-20. lbx-20 just lacks flavour for me, tho pure by numbers, it easilly bests the std ac.

Q. TDB has HPV ACs Caseless, etc, other then ammo and heat and a lil damage, is there any in game effects that are different? like are they portrayed any differently then a LBX or a standard AC? I mean if a assault with HPVs trots onto the field do you go 'oh shit, its a hoser mech' or do you go 'eh, ok so its got a little faster speed then me with some weapons.' ??

That is from THB.. HV AC's were some of the non-munch equipment theirin.

Best is, use tech base lvl 2, and not stuff you do not know. Since anyone else most likely will not know such, hmm, vintage stuff either.

Cray from what I understand TW book allows a RAC to fire one to six shots assuming ammo is available.
Any rules I type should be considered unofficial unless stated otherwise by Precentor Martial Randall Bills and/or published Classic BattleTech products.
