PDG-1E Pudge

Primary Factory: Soul Communications System: Sony MST-15 Targeting and Tracking System: Wayne Marksman
Overview: Once again, the design team at Johnson 'Mechworks, Inc. is turning heads with a low-tech design they rooted out of their archives...this time a 100-ton behemoth with the unlikely handle "Pudge." Boasting long-range capabilities matched by few 'Mechs of any era, and sufficient point-blank punch to vapourize a Stinger with single volley, the Pudge, like many other JMInc. designs, could have been a major player in the Fourth Succession War and the following conflicts if it had ever seen production.
Capabilities: Big. Slow. Well-protected. Heavy damage output. All labels you expect to find attached to an Assault 'Mech, particularly one that tips the scales at the maximum mass of 100 tons. In truth, there is nothing unusual or bizarre about the Pudge (other than the name), which in itself sets this one apart from the majority of JMInc. designs Nevertheless. the Pudge is impressive, both powerful and versatile without being outrageously expensive. At long range, the PDG-1E Pudge combines the reliability of a pair of the tested and true Fusigon Particle Projection Cannons with the range and efficiency of the classic Shigunga LRM-rack, giving ranged ability roughly comparable to an Awesome. In close, heavy laser fire and massed SRMs are likely toprovide the finishing blow to any adversary able to weather ranged volleys, as well as being nearly instant death to infantry and ground vehicles. All in all, a devastating machine for its time, and still significant (if a little outdated) on the modern battlefield.
Deployment:] JMInc. having folded before ever gaining the funding to actually produce a single 'Mech, there are no Pudge 'Mechs in service, active or otherwise. There is, however, a single prototype...if it can be called that. Referred to by the design team as a "concept model," it is actually a refit of a salvaged Awesome chassis, thrown together to give the designers a rough idea of what they were dealing with. Since the chassis was never designed to support the heavier mass of the Pudge, and being of compromised integrity to boot, the 'Mech is barely mobile, able to manage only half its rated walking speed. Due to this limited functionality, and budget constraints, the construction crews opted against fitting it with fully functional weapons...the mounted equipment is only functional enough to verify that the power converters and linkages are compatible. Nevertheless, the rickety "concept model" stands almost as a monument to unrealized potential.
Known Variants: There are at present no listed variants for the Pudge, the design having been released from archives only recently, but there is rumour that the reborn JMInc. is working on updating the schematic (and possibly the prototype) with more modern weaponry, possibly in preparation of a re-release of the design.

My Blurb: My eyes kinda popped when I reviewed my older designs and pulled up this schematic. In my mind, finally an assault 'Mech as it should be. And the rarest of beasties: an effective 2 PPC 'Mech that doesn't look like a Whammy refit...
