>.> Sorry! That old old old Ford jingle was running through my head tonight.. and.. and this is what happened, dont beat me.. hard?
BTW: GM and 'Peridition' were chosen for the whole 'good ol' boy' thing so to speak, its a Theme get it? hah hah. Q1 Quid-1
Chassis: Whitworth Type I Power Plant: Standard 175 Cruising Speed: 53.75 Maximum Speed: 86 Jump Jets: none Jump Capacity: none Armor: Standard Armament: 2 Diverse Optics Type 10 Small Lasers 2 Coventry SRM 4s 1 Diverse Optics Type 2 Medium Laser 2 SperryBrowning Machine Guns Manufacturer: GM BattleMechs Primary Factory: Perdition Communications System: Wilson Silicon Siren Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown
Overview: Best described as the little mecha that tried, this 'sunday driver' mech was built with low maitence, low cost in mind. Every component of it is standardized and stock, performance is about average for a light mech, if a little behind modern technologies, cheap, easy to jury rig on the battle field and above all else, disposable by comparision, its akin to a Flea's bigger brother with a slightly larger bite.
the name of the mech came from one designer quipping that 'Oy I'll pay one Quid for a lance of them." and the name was born. Build wise its humaniod, one of the few 'hand' mechs and resmbles a shorter Witworth in overall look. while its weapons are cheap and off the rack, they are grouped well enough so the low damage is offset by groups.
A basic cockpit and sensors, only slightly more advanced then a 'trainer' mech make it rather easy to pilot for those could have been pilots who want a mech but are either not good enough for larger mechs, too far 'out' to get access to more powerful units or cannot afford anything larger. While limited in tech and overall capability, the mech has enough internal space for limited customization that lends its pilots a sense of personal touch.
Mass produced from mostly readily availibe parts, it can be found in many backwater worlds, away from boarder conflicts where the local rulers want mechs that can endure over mechs that they have to expend a years currency to repair.
In line with its lower combat zone ideal, the mechs hands are fully articulated and able to carry any number of mech scale tools and compoents, and mounting plugs on the front and back of the torso can be used to carry tool boxes, cargo bays and the like making it a regular 'Farmers' battlemech during the quiet times on planet.
Weapons wise, Diverse Optics small and medium lasers were chosen for durability and life of the weaponry along with the soild background of the company.
The SRM4 pods are off the shelf Coventry models, used for years in any number of mechs; a decent supply of ammunition for each rack is also included, additonal ammunition for these mechs can be bought at a 15% discount from the various factories, providing it is bought in lots of 10 tons or more.
The dual machine guns are rugged all tempature SB units, carrying a light half ton of ammo each as resupply for machine guns are often done on planet itself.
What the mech lacks in cutting edge technology and hard hitting weapons it makes up for in a high speed curve, relilbilty factor and a sense of familiarty its pilots quickly gain due to the standard controls and settings, weapons and systems marked with easy to understand pictographs.
Some pilots have described it as the 'Truck' battlemech, claiming its fast, powerful enough for thier needs and while it may not be as up to date or as powerful or even as war orientated, its a 'mech they can trust to have sitting in thier hangers/barns that will last. Cost wise it is little over 2,000,000 C$bills, making it purchasable by groups or indaviduals with sufficent funds, or due to its market audience, partial payment and the rest is worked off in either barter or service trade of some manner.
For the down on thier luck, wanna be, almost could have been farm boy pilot it offers a chance to be a 'king' of thier own little patch of dirt and can help bolster a citys moral and productivity simply by haivng a few 'Battle' mechs there to guard them at night.
It is also distinctive by both being undistinctive and standardized, and in that purchase and advertisement of the mech is done word of mouth, someone who buys one often tells others of its adaptability and ruggedness and said persons aqquire one and the word spreads.
Capabilities: Light combat duity, CQB mainly. Secondary manual work.
Deployment: Several hundered worlds across the Inner Sphere, mainly within the outer rim and in Preheipiary space.
Battle History: Police duty, light boarder skirmishing.
Known Variants: Due to the design of the mech, any pilot with spare parts that can fit is likely to change the design to suit their needs, so only the Q1 is the 'prime' design, others are singular at best or used in small clusters by like minded personnel.
