mIRC unable to connect to server
      #141352 - 12/07/06 10:18 AM (128.176.216.116)

Got a problem here. I had to reinstall Windows XP after one of my system files got corrupted, and after reinstalling (and adding a few not yet installed microsoft updates), mirc won't let me into any irc server. Settings seem to be the same as before. I got the windows firewall running now, but I don't know if that is the problem, and if yes, how to solve it. Any ideas? Any special entries in the mirc setup I might have missed?

actually it's still iffy. When trying to connect to mirc, I have to toggle between activating and deactivating scan and trust to luck. Usually, after 2 or 3 attempts, it simply works and lets me in. So the problem seems to be connected with MacAffee, but I haven't found out in which way exactly.

if you use McAfee, make sure you turn off port blocking. Also most work firewalls don't block port 16667 (which is for irc in addition to 6667 for the express purpose of bypassing firewalls.)
