Clanners under siege
      #141922 - 12/17/06 07:40 PM (24.96.188.170)

Dust and smoke obscures most of the background behind a reporter wearing a wrinkled suit, helmet, and an oversized flak jacket. He tilts the helmet back a little and speaks loudly over the distant rumbling…

“The noise you are hearing is the sound of a 85-ton assault ‘mech retreating into the woods to the south. The large Crockett, sporting upgraded weapons, surprised the forces waiting in this small outpost just an hour ago. A determined effort, combined with fire from city artillery, finally gave the enemy pilot more than he could take.”

The camera pans left as the reporter strolls toward a twisted 'mech chassis still spewing black smoke.

“Believe it or not, this is the second such assault these brave men and women have faced today. Earlier a Trebuchet under the command of a Legion officer met its end during a botched ‘Death From Above’ maneuver.” He gestures toward the pile. “This hulk of metal is all that is left. No word is available on whether or not the pilot was able to eject.

“These units have been holding out here since they were backed into a corner by their original opponent. Presumably because he lacks the resources to deal with these defenders himself, the attacker was replaced by a second empire with the Trebuchet and a third empire with a Crockett! Even against such odds, the defenders have suffered no losses since the two new empires stepped-in.

“This of course begs the question, how many Legion empires does it take to surrender one?

“The war began with the declaration of Faction War against our Galaxy by the Devil’s Brigade. Our Galaxy Commander had already been surrendered by an empire from Havok’s Harassers. One Major Curtis of the HH alliance was quoted on the Neveron airwaves saying, ‘Good job, Acci[piter]. Way to be a vulture and hit [our Galaxy] when an HHer surrendered the FL so you get an automatic win.’

“Major Accipiter himself responded, ‘I was getting that faction on my wins list sooner or later, may as well do it in a way that doesn’t do any additional damage to them.’

“That remark was issued several days before the crash of his Trebuchet. We wonder if his confidence is still as high. For now, from the war zone, we are signing off. With Falcon tenacity, we win.”

As commander of the Crockett in question, I would like to state that everything is slander of the lowest grade and is complete and utter drivel. The woods were to the west.

I would like to state that the mechs fought very well, and that I look forward to meeting them again someday.
