BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Bronco BRC-4G Tech: Inner Sphere / 3060 Config: Quad BattleMech Rules: Level 2, Standard design
Mass: 75 tons Chassis: Standard Power Plant: 300 Vlar Fusion Walking Speed: 43,2 km/h Maximum Speed: 64,8 km/h Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor Type: Standard Armament: 1 Heavy Gauss Rifle 1 SRM 2 2 ER Medium Lasers 1 ER Small Laser Manufacturer: (Unknown) Location: (Unknown) Communications System: (Unknown) Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Bronco is a 3rd generation anti-mech quad. Designed mostly for ambushing and long range sniping.
Originally a joint Draconis Combine and Federated Commonwealth design, the DC pulled out of the project when the Civil War broke out.
==Capabilities:== The Bronco is a so-called third generation quad, making use of advancements made in recent years it features an unusually smooth ride for a quad design. Mounting one of the most powerful weapons ever made, the Heavy Gauss Rifle, it can savage most lights and mediums and seriously damage heavies and assault class mechs.
Though it has only average speed for a heavy mech, the Bronco's quad design allows it to fully take advantage of terrain and can hide in positions that would leave bipedal mechs exposed. Yet some have observed that the Bronco is not suitable for running battles with more advanced and faster mechs, since it relies on cover to function properly, it is feared that the Bronco could be a sitting duck in open terrain. Other critics have gone as far as saying that the Bronco's design mindset is still rooted in defensive operations against the Clans and a liability for future operations.
The wedge-shaped body is not only heavily armoured with 15 tons of regular armour, it has a highly effective ballistic shape meaning that enemy shots have a tendency to glance off the steeply sloped main body. The centrally located cockpit is recessed into the main body offering extra protection against enemy fire from the sides and rear with the SRM and Heavy Gauss blisters adding further protection. A series of bevels deflect incoming shots against the armour that would otherwise slide into the cockpit.
All this makes the Bronco hard to kill and a mean fighter with a fearsome punch.
The Heavy Gauss Rifle carries an impressive 5 tons of ammo, enough for 20 shots. The smooth ride, and stability of the quad design allows the pilot to fire it on the move if necessary without suffering too much from the weapon's heavy recoil. The secondary armament is made up of twin ER Medium Lasers , a single ER Small Laser and an SRM2 pack. One of the Medium and Small Laser are built into ball-turrets, giving them a wide arc of fire, up to directly down, giving the Bronco excellent protection against infantry trying to attack the legs. The SRM can fire a wide range of ammo, including the very effective Inferno rounds.
The standard tactic for the Bronco is to lie in ambush and wait for an enemy to come close. Preferably several Bronco's are to set up to create a maximum kill zone. If properly positioned a lance of Bronco's can hold off almost any attack for an extended period of time, relying on its ample ammo supply and sheer durability.
==Battle History:== The Bronco has seen little action so far. Its performance in simulation has been superlative with many popular inner sphere Assault Mechs going down in matter of seconds to well aimed shots.
==Variants:== A number of variants have been developed and are quickly entering service in the forces of Houses Steiner and Davion.
The 4D version drops the Heavy Gauss rifle for a RAC-5 with three tons of ammo, replaces the SRM2 with an SRM6 streak, the Small Laser with a Medium Pulse laser. and adds a sophisticated targeting computer allowing the 4D to lay down highly accurate withering fire.
The 5EC is a command version, mounting a conventional gauss rifle and SRM4, it is equipped with a sophisticated electronics package with an ECM, a Probe, a C3 slave system and a TAG.
Finally the 6G version adresses the mobility problems with an XL engine, boosting the top speed to 83kph. The secondary armament is changed to three ER Medium Lasers. Some consider this version superior, though it more than doubles the production costs.
==Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:== The Four Horsemen
This lance of test pilots put their Bronco's through hundreds and hundreds of scenarios and achieved a stunning 7/1 kill ratio. At one point they managed to knock out a lance of heavy mechs in less than 30 seconds, destroying a Caesar and an Axman with their opening shots and mauling an Avatar and a Marauder 5S.
In another engagement they managed to destroy a Turkina and a Kodiak with only one friendly casualty.
==Deployment== Most Bronco's are in service in Steiner space and serve in garrison units where they can make full use of terrain knowledge and preplotted firing positions with fall-backs.
Some units do report that the Bronco operates very well with Assault mechs and are used as flanking elements for heavier designs such as the Fafnir and Hauptmann.

Nice fluff and it seems to suggest it self well to city fighting and a good defensive mech.
Could you post the HMPro file?

Hmmm, very nice. I'm not generally the biggest fan of quads, but I have to say I like this one. Then again, I'm a sucker for fluf. Good job.
