The Lone Warrior
      #142869 - 01/04/07 07:40 AM (213.83.117.170)

Everyone stood still awaiting to hear the transmission incoming on the com-link,
“Well what is it?” asked the commander
The operator sounding distress responded
“Commander, it was Tannhäuser Knights, they have come under attack, lost most of their cities and have been forced to surrender. They are asking for assistance.”
“Tell them we will be glad to help out. Get the mechs ready boys, were going to war!!”

It was 08:30 before the landing craft dropped the units, with HLC choosing to send Thor in his Tribute mech to scout the area.
“Looks like the opposing forces have left” Thor reported
Suddenly his sensors alarm flashed; there was an enemy unit in the proximity.
“Commander, we have units in this area, send support.”
“Negative Thor, keep moving forward, Destroy everything you see!”
Thor wasn’t overcome with joy with the words of his commander but started to scan his monitors hoping to see what was lurking out there. He slowly jumped forward, using cover from surrounding hills and trees when suddenly the enemy came into sight. A Firestarter stood proud, obviously awaiting his arrival. Thor continued to move forward, always watching the Firestarter which remained still.
“Commander”
“Yes, what now”
“Commander, only 1 unit in the area, it’s a………”
All of a sudden the Firestarter jumped forward and fired his medium lasers, Thor managed to move just in time and saw the two shots blast a hole into the hill behind him. His commander, hearing the blast, as Thor left the com-link on shouted
“KILL IT!”
With that Thor knew he had to keep moving to stop the Firestarter from locking on, fired his jets and moved back to the cover of nearby trees and watched the Firestarter follow. Thor hit the weapons system and started to target the Firestarter. A blast from the twin medium lasers of the firestarter hit Thors right leg with that he released a bolt from his PPC which barley missed; Thor jumped for cover but again the Firestarter again followed, another laser blast from the Firestarter, this time rocking Thor’s cockpit.
Thor returned fire with another PPC bolt, this time hitting his targets left arm but at the same time receiving blasts all over his mech. Sirens sounded in the cockpit due to the amount of damage that had been taken, Thor fired his jets again, jumping to the top of a hill; he released another bolt from his PPC, this time it was a direct hit on the Firestarters centre torso. He quickly fired again, a second direct hit. The Firestarter was now down to internals but it was obvious he was not about to give up as he fired his lasers in response and both shots blasting the remaining armor from his right leg.
Thor realized he had to finish this as he couldn’t take any hits to his leg; he targeted the centre torso of the firestarter, which had released a barrage of its own shots to try and finish Thor but only managed to rock the mech. A final shot from the PPC, hitting the centre torso ripping a hole through the middle of the mech and destroying it. As Thor watch it crumble and explode he sent a message across the comms
“Commander, one dead Firestarter to add to the list of kills”

Lt. Trantor, pressed into his ejection seat and rushing through the air, couldn't believe that this really happened. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw his Firestarter dissolve in a heap of glowing metal, right next to the Tribute.

'One of these days', he thought, 'Why did I even bother to get out of bed...'. He knew the answer to this question, of course. It was because he was deployed here by his general, to engage and, if possible, destroy the enemy scouts which have been reported in the area.

Moving at maximum speed, and using all cover he could during that battle, he ferociously had tried to keep his Firestarter well within the minimum range of the Tribute's weapons. He knew it had been exceptionally hard for the enemy pilot to get a lock on his nimble machine. Nevertheless, the enemy's PPC had hit his mech again and again with uncanny, surgical precision.

Shaken from the rough landing of his ejection seat, he crept behind a tree and surveyed the situation. The battered Tribute was looming a hundred metres away, half obscured by the black smoke coming out of his Firestarter's devastated center torso. He switched his headset to emergency comms. At once he heard the voice of Sgt. H.G., who was sitting in his Mercury, on a hill about 5 km away, surveying the battle.

'We got an ejection. I can see him. He seems to be okay. Requesting pickup at xx/yy'.

'Talking to the enemy commander via open frequency', Maj. Angus Reborn Again responded. 'Pick him up and then leave the area. Prepare for arrival of the Landing Craft, T minus 15 minutes.'

Nice story, HLC. You had the force with you that day, hehe. Was a pleasure to fight you that way. Nev would be a fun place to be if all wars would be fought in this manner. Looking forward to any next engagement to come.
