------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Plunderer is commonly used by the Clan bandit caste. It is a potent raider, highly suitable for hit and run attacks.
==Capabilities:== The Plunderer is a rugged machine using older components often salvaged from Caches and surplus parts. Though it is not an omnimech, it does share many components making repairs and changing parts extremely easy and fast.
The Plunderer is well armed and armoured except for a slight lack of speed compared to Clan mechs in the same class, but it is generally more than a match for most second-line mechs.
The Plunderer's long range weaponry includes an ER large laser and an LRM 15 rack. For close range, accurate fire, it mounts a large pulse laser and an LBX-10 autocannon. Since most of its opponents are likely to be medium second-line mechs this armament is considered more than sufficient to deal with anything short of a heavy Omnimech.
Jump jets allow the Plunderer to move swiftly over broken terrain and maneuver itself into a superior position when in combat.
==Battle History:== No Clan has openly admitted producing the Plunderer, yet newly made models appear on a regular basis. Most Clans do have blueprints of this design and it is believed several Clans do supply the bandit caste with Plunderers to hinder enemy operations or even the odd black op. The mere sight of a Plunderer in a raiding is a clear signal that the target has the attention of a rival clan.
Many Clan mechwarriors despise the Plunderer, often charging them at sight, believing they are naturally superior. But many pay this mistake with their lives. But Plunderer pilots tend to live short, brutal lives as they are mercilessly hunted down.
==Variants:== Plunderers are easily modified with captured parts. Versions mounting PPC's and Gauss Rifles have been reported.
==Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:== The Grey Ghost
Usually discounted as a mere sibko scare story, the Grey Ghost has haunted the fringes of Clan space for more than a century, though few if any reports have ever been fully confirmed by hard data. The story goes that the Ghost's dark grey Plunderer appears out of nowhere in remote areas and strikes hard and fast before vanishing before the enemy can react. It has survived attacks which would have crippled it several times over, reappearing undamaged moments after such attacks.
Officially the Ghost is nothng but a creation of the Bandit caste, based on misinformation, planted hearsay and clever tactics.
Star Captain Kat
One of the few Clan warriors who ever piloted a Plunderer. Kat was a highly skilled cadet, but had tested poorly on occassion and found herself assigned to a Nova Cat Bandit Hunting expedition.
Her Stormcrow was destroyed by an engine hit during a scouting mission and she was forced to eject. Reported missing in action, she spent several weeks in enemy territory and discovered the location of the Bandit hideout in a narrow canyon, hidden from view. She sneaked into the camp and stole a Plunderer, destroying several bandit mechs and set fire to an ammo dump before narrowly escaping from the inferno.
Upon spotting her, a Summoner, Kit Fox and a Nova attacked on sight. She tried to contact the mechwarriors, but believing a ruse, ignored her calls. Kat engaged them, besting them in combat, but her damaged mech was caught by a salvo from a Warhawk destroying her engine. She managed to eject, but was grievously injured.
Dying from her wounds, her commander pronounced that this battle was her trial of position and she posthumously received the rank of Star Captain.
==Deployment== The Plunderer is in service with Clan bandit caste. No self respecting Clan warrior would ever dare pilot such a machine, except maybe under the most extreme circumstances.
