Hey Guys. It's been a while since I last posted a mech, largely because I can never post one until after I've written at least a little fluff for it. Since I've been short on ideas lately and not particularly in the mood to write, I've had a few new designs sitting in mothballs on my hard drive. But, I finally got in the writing mood tonight and here you go, one mothball pulled out for show and tell! Although not my best fluffed mech, it'll suffice for now.
Anyway, when I designed it, I was just wanting to play with a 45 ton mech, for some odd reason. After a bit, this came of it. Deffinately not the best mech, but respectable. As always, any comments, concerns, or blatent hatred (with reason ) are welcome.

BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Forge FRG-1F Tech: Inner Sphere / 3025 Config: Biped BattleMech Rules: Level 1, Standard design
Mass: 45 tons Chassis: Standard Power Plant: 180 GM Fusion Walking Speed: 43.2 km/h Maximum Speed: 64.8 km/h Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor Type: Standard Armament: 1 PPC 3 Medium Lasers 4 SRM 2s Manufacturer: (Unknown) Location: (Unknown) Communications System: (Unknown) Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Forge was Kater and Kater Mech Foundries' second entry into the battlemech market. After having some success with their previous entry, the Sledgehammer in 3053, the two brothers were able to take the knowledge gained from their previous project to create a new design. After some three years of development, the Forge was born. To date, only a single lance of the Forge have been built, of which one mech is the second variant.
==Capabilities:== Confused is likely the best description of the Forge's abilites. Its relatively slow speed and PPC lends it to the role of a dedicated fire-support mech. However, since the PPC is its sole long-range armament, it doesn't have the fire power to be a substantial threat to mechs at range. By contrast, its triad of medium lasers and quartet of SRM's grants the mech short-range versatility, but the mech lacks the mobility nescessary to become a truly amasing brawler. The Forge can be best viewed as a gifted, if not spectacular machine. Thankfully, the machine mounts a full 9.5 tons of armor, and thus has the stamina to survive even long engagements. Further, the machine's low cost, a mere three million C-bills, makes it an appealing choice for anyone wanting a cheap, versatile mech.
==Variants:== Only one variant exists today. This second machine, the FRG-1F2 drops two SRMs and two heatsinks in exchange for four jumpjets and two machine guns with a half ton of ammo. Although this grants the machine a substantial increase in mobility, skeptics say that loss of the second brace of SRM's weakens the mech's combat abilties too greatly. As of today, only one of this variant have been built.

Yeah, that is pretty mediocre, Medium mechs are allways one big comprimise, and you never have enough tonnage to have it do everything you want. Although I'd say it isn't bad, its well-rounded without "sucking at everything" and it does have a PPC. PPCs are cool. I'd say that SRM/2s are'nt good for a mech, the heat to damage ratio is pretty bad, other then that I sorta like that design, its so average and low-tech, I'd use it as a standard on which to compare other designs. "This is what an inner sphere medium mech is, it trys to be everything but isn't." I think your mech is exactly what a inexpensive, verstile medium mech should be. It doesn't have a 400XL engine, and thats fine in my books.

Reminds me of the old Chimera mech, one that did the same thing was based around multi weapons configs and platforms to be good at everything in its weight class but not spectacular. I give it a solid, 7.5 out of 10, since a pilot wants something cheap, reliable and easy enough to repair/refit if the need arises. Has a good heat curve and decent speed. Armor, is always iffy depending on your views, but overall a good second line/garrison mech for units who arn't expecting to be hit hard like the ol' Watchman battlemech.
Greetings Mechwarrior.

Considering this is all L1 tech, it's not that shabby...I especially like the variant for tough terrain. And don't knock the firepower...3*ML, 2*SRM2, 2*MG is pretty impressive close quarters for a L1 45 tonner. This thing could walk over most FA$A L1 mediums, and a PPC for long range is nothing to sneeze at...a Battlemaster barely tops that
Peace is that glorious moment in history when everyone stands around reloading.
