------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== Designed to be a capable scout and trooper mech, the Dog Soldier is a popular design with mercenaries and house units in quieter sectors. Only a few have been sold to Marik units to guard the Periphery sector.
==Capabilities:== A Marik export design, The Dog Soldier is very well armed for a mech its size, mounting a large laser and SRM6, it can successfully engage anything smaller than itself, while still being able to stand up to many medium designs or run away from anything too heavy to handle.
Designed as a cost-effective trooper, the Dog Soldier is cheap, but surprisingly effective. The only frequently voiced complaint is the very cramped cockpit, due to its low domed shape, the pilot is forced to sit in a reclined position while the viewing screens are located almost directly above him/her. Though initially counter-intiuitve pilots soon learn to compensate for this. Like the Hatchetman, the Dog Soldier's entire head functions as an escape pod. It is jetted upwards to above and behind the mech, before descending on a parachute. The pod can float and can function as a lifeboat.
The main armament is located in the better armoured torso rather than the arms. The machineguns give the Dog Soldier a means to engage enemy infantry.
==Battle History:== The Dog Soldier has proven itself quite able to deal with raiders and pirates.
The heavy armament of the Dog Soldier sometimes could lead pilots to think they can blast their way out of any situation. Unfortunately most pilots are located in low-resource areas where training might be less extensive than that of main line units. But in most cases pilots are instructed to adopt hit and run tactics whenever possible.
An incident in 3066 caused some negative publicity for the Dog Soldier, when a holovid of a fight between a Soldier and a Locust 1V spread across the Inner Sphere. The Locust managed to keep behind the Dog Soldier, staying out of reach of the main weapons and out of MG range, it picked at the lightly armoured rear with its medium laser. Unable to get away the Dog Soldier succumbed to an ammo explosion doing very little damage to the Locust. Though the head ejection system functioned perfectly and got the pilot away from the blast without injury.
==Variants:== The Dog Soldier has a roomy torso which allows for easy maintenance and modification. Two variants have appeared since its introduction in 3061. The 4D Version replaces the laser with and ER model without causing major heat problems. The 4E Model replaces the MG and SRM for an LRM10. This version was introduced after the Locust incident. Allowing the mech to stand off to faster designs. Rumor of a Kurita version mounting an MRM-launcher and C3 system have yet to be confirmed.
==Deployment== Both the Federated Suns and the Draconis combine have ordered many Dog Soldiers.

wow.. 30 tons, and pretty good, yeah the combine would use this bugger, heck i could use a lance or four myself; striker mechs are always a good thing.
Greetings Mechwarrior.

Thats not bad, really, its versitile and cheap enough to see its way into alot of reserve or militia armys. I'd make it 5/8 and replace its LL with a PPC, I'd really dig that, a PPC with make it on par with alot of medium mechs in the right circumstances. Its got enough heat. I'd ditch the Endo steel to make it even cheaper. If you got extra criticals, I'd make it standard armor too. you should try and bring it under 2 million to make it competitive with a crap-stock heavy tank in terms of fire-power and versitility.
