==Overview:==
The Skirmisher holds the disctinction of being one of the very last mechs to
be put into production before the technological collapse of the Succession
Wars.

==Capabilities:==
At one time believed to be out of production, the Skirmisher actually never
officially ceased production, altough at one point, production dropped to
about 2-3 units a year.

Armed with an LRM5 and an AC/2, the Skirmisher excels at ranged combat against
light scout vehicles and mechs, although it cannot hope to stop heavy mechs,
it can harass and hinder them until stronger forces arrive.

A single medium laser is the Skirmisher's main close range weapon, though it
is seldom needed as Skirmisher pilots retreat as soon as the enemy threatens
to close the range.

The Skirmisher's moderate speed is its one weakness. Should fast strike mechs
slip past their gunnery, they could wreak havoc against machines designed for
long range shooting.

==Battle History:==
Amidst fears that the Valkyrie might go out of production and concerned about
the high attrition rate of light skirmishing and scouting elements, Prince
Joseph Davion II ordered in 2896 the design of a new mech that could screen
enemy scouting elements on provision that it would not draw strategic
resources away from the production of the Valkyrie.

Designers managed to produce a workable design in less than a year and the
first Skirmishers were introduced in late 2897 but the Davion economy was soon
crippled, reducing the output of Skirmishers to a mere trickle.

As the situation improved around 2915, several hundred Skirmishers were on
hand to participate in Joseph's offensive against the DCMS in 2918. They
contributed to disrupt Kurita scouting efforts and participated in the
campaign for Xhosa VII.

During Peter Davion's reign, the emphasis shifted to Aerospace technology,
leaving the production of the Skirmisher to drop off again. Soon Technical
Readouts began to report that the Skirmisher was a lost design though
production never ceased.

It was only during the late 3040's that production problems finally were
resolved. Company officials approached Hanse Davion pointing out the
similarities to the much maligned Blackjack. The Prince was won over and
ordered to incorpate new technology into the Skirmisher. The fully retooled
4D model appeared in 3057.

==Variants:==
The 3T version adressed the range problem by replacing the AC/2 with a large
laser. Though this significantly cut the range, it gave the skirmisher more
substantial firepower. About one in eight was the 3T version.

The 4D version adresses many of the weaknesses of the Skirmisher. An XL
engine boosts the speed to over 96 kph and the armament was upgraded to an
LB2X and an LRM10. In order to accomdate these new weapon systems a new Endo
Steel skeleton and FF armour was introduced.

Fluff is good, the mech, well it's a sniper mech sure but it seems to be on the low end of that grouping.

Would really need to see this one in a battle to give you a better take on it.
