One night I was playing around with the numbers and decided to see what would happen if I paired an AC/10 with an AC/20 in an assault mech. A little bit later, the Dwarf was born. For a Level 1 Assault, I'm pretty happy with it over all, although it costs a bit more than I'd like. But, for what she is, I can't really complain, and besides, how often do we see an assault that can flip its arms? Currently working on the LVL2 refit to see how she comes out with modern tech.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== Following the release of the Hobbit, Kater and Kater Mech Foundries began work on their next project. All of their previous designs were limited to the medium mech category, and the company felt it was time to expand into new areas. Initial feasibility studies showed that entering into the assault class mech market had some potential, so development of a new chassis began. Building upon the lessons of their last chassis, the Agamar MKII, the company soon completed their preliminary design, the Agamar MKV. Although certainly broader and stronger than their last chassis, it was a mere meter taller, taking it to a total of 12 meters tall. As a result of its abnormally short height, the mech came to be known simply as the Dwarf.
Short, heavy, ugly and mean, the Dwarf certainly lived up to its name. Due to being more of a concept mech as opposed to a full-production model, the machine was built with at least one weapon for every range. Although this made it very well rounded, it didn't leave much room for efficiency in the design.
The mech's primary long-range weapon can be found in a single PPC projecting out of its left torso. Although certainly not the heaviest of long-range arsenals ever seen on an assault class mech, it is more than capable of deterring medium and light mech classes, as well as providing an initial "kiss" for heavier opponents.
At medium range, the pilot finds two more weapons at his disposal: a Large Laser in the right torso and an AC/10 in the left arm. These in conjunction with the PPC provide formidable firepower.
If the enemy should still be standing by the time the Dwarf enters short range, then they probably won't be for much longer. Here, the Dwarf is finally able to bring to bear its massive 20 class autocanon. Capable of disabling light mechs in a single shot, this beast of a weapon makes the Dwarf a truly horrific monster of death and carnage. Only the extremely brave or foolish come this close to the Dwarf and expect to survive intact.
Ultimately, the biggest failing of the Dwarf is its simply terrible heat management system. Firing more than three of its weapons on the run all but guarantees a shutdown. Even at rest, this mech still suffers from too much heat. Although this is slightly mitigated by the clearly defined firing ranges, it is by no means a perfect solution. Additionally, the outdated technology of the design is both a blessing and a curse. Although it makes it relatively easy to repair and maintain, it is by no means cutting edge technology.
Regardless of the overheating, the mech does have its perks. It's armor coverage is simply phenomenal, sporting a very impressive 15.5 tons. Additionally, the lack of hands and lower-arm actuators grants this mech the ability to flip its arms, thus allowing it to bring both of its autocannons to bear on any opponent within range. Any mech hoping to rely on an exposed back will be sorely surprised when it finds itself staring down the barrels of an AC/10 and AC/20.
Ultimately, the Dwarf has proven to be formidable in initial trials in spite of its aging technology. Several Periphery states have expressed interest, and even House Davion has inquired about modern version.
==Variants:== Currently none, although at least one upgrade is in development.

Nice...I would have gone with more varied weaponry rather than the PPC/LL combo, but that's just me...
I saw a few frighteningly effective mixed-AC designs in my 2nd Design Challenge Fun times...maybe I should run another one some time...
Peace is that glorious moment in history when everyone stands around reloading.
