------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Battleaxe was first published in BattleTechnology Magazine Issue 0203.
When Case Stransky inherited a Battleaxe from his aunt, he sold off his Hermes II to buy new parts to upgrade it. He installed ferro-fibrous armour and double strength heat sinks. This boosted the abilities of his machine considerably. And he was soon approached by other Battleax pilots to produce more upgrade kits. Stransky began to research the Battleax's history and discovered that the factory had miraculously survived the Succession Wars, though nobody was willing to resurrect a failed design.
==Capabilities:== The BTX-7K Battleax was the main rival for the Warhammer. Sold in huge numbers to the House armies, several flaws and weaknesses emerged, dooming this design.
By 3060, less than 120 machines remained. Stransky received nearly 15 orders for upgrade kits and using the money he made from this he decided to restart the Battleax factory, upgrading the design with modern technology.
The initial production run focused on fixing major flaws. The 8K model recieved a completely new cockpit. The armour was upgraded using ferro fibrous armour and an array of 15 double-strength heat sinks allowed the Battleax to fire almost continously without risk of overheating.
The low price spurred sales as the Fed Com Civil War broke out. Despite its poor reputation, units were snapping up Battleaxes for lack of anything better.
By 3067 the number of Battleaxes had doubled to nearly 250 units.
This allowed Stransky to consider a further upgrade and the introduction of the 9K model.
==Battle History:== The Battleax 8K is usually used as a fire support mech for medium and heavy lances in militia and mercenary units. Though it lacks modern weapons it can keep up its fire for longer periods of time due to the lower heat range.
Some were waiting for a rematch between a Warhammer and a Battleax and in 3064, such an event occured. A Warhammer 7M engaged a Battleax. It seems both pilots understood the historical significance of this battle and tried their best to defeat the other. The Battleax used the jump jets to make itself a more difficult target, using the LRM racks to pepper the enemy at distance. The Warhammer tried to rely on its more advanced ER PPC's. For a while both machines seemed equally matched, until the Battleax received a cockpit hit. The Battleax fell to the ground, seemingly crippled.
The Warhammer moved in for the kill but received a full volley as it came in range. The Battleax then jumped into the air and crashed into the other machine, narrowly missing the Warhammer's cockpit. Both mechs collapsed to the ground. The Warhammer's gyro was gone, while the Battleax lost a leg.
To some it showed that the Battleax was a worthy design, at least the equal of a Warhammer. Shortly after the story of the fight became public rumours of a set-up began to circulate.
==Variants:== A few variants of the Battleax-8K have appeared in recent years. One version drops the PPC's in favour of ER Large Lasers and upgrades to LRM10's. Another version replaces the SRM6 with an SRM4 streak.
==Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:== Case Stransky was born in a family of techs. He joined an NAIS training program in 3047 and graduated, earning himself a Hermes II mech.
When his aunt left him a Battleax, he struggled to improve it, his quest eventually leading him to resurrect this ancient design.
==Deployment== Often picked up by second-line units, the Battleax is a cheap and cost-effective mech. Most were sold to guard quiet sectors or to mercenaries looking for a bargain.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The 9K Battleax was redesigned from the ground up. By combining a light engine and an endo steel skeleton, Stransky's design team freed up enough space for extra heat sinks that would allow the Battleax to mount a pair of ER PPC's and an SRM6 streak.
==Capabilities:== The BTX-9K Battleax has become a competitive mech, both in terms of combat value and monetary value. Slightly cheaper than XL-equipped mechs it carries enough armour and weapons to stand up to most mechs currently in service.

Nice fire-support heavy. Hope it's deployed with some good close-range hitters for lancemates tho.
Peace is that glorious moment in history when everyone stands around reloading.

Uhmm guys a very similar mech has already been in use for some time in the game universe, it was one of the origianl Battledroids and has mech mini made for it at one time Ral Partha, same name and very similar stats...
If you want I can post the stats and the source is an early issue of Battletechnology magazine.

As per my original post :
"The Battleaxe was first published in BattleTechnology Magazine Issue 0203."
It looks like a thin warhammer with a hexagonal head and vaguely phoenix hawk shaped legs.
