==Overview:==
Perhaps even more controversial than the Mad Cat II, the Agesilaus mech,
designed by Clan Diamond Shark, was clearly aimed for sale to mercenaries,
despite denials from its designers. A captured machine in full mercenary
colours was used as evidence against the Sharks before its explusion from Clan
Space.

==Capabilities:==
The Agesilaus is a medium multi-role mech. It can perform a wide range of
tasks, such as fire support, urban combat, garrison duty and raiding.

Little advanced techology is built into the Agesilaus, most parts being older
than those currently in service with most Clans. Like many second-line type
designs, the Agesilaus uses a standard engine, which gives it a more than
respectable top speed of 86kph combined with jump jets.

The weaponry is diverse, starting with a pair of LRM10's for fire support
duties. The launchers are unusual in that they are inside drum mounts fixed
into the torso under the armpit. While not omnitechnology, they can be
replaced very quickly in the field in case of damage. The drums also function
as a CASE system, protecting the torso from ammo explosions.

An AC/5-Ultra is the mechs main direct long range weapon. The compact weapon
fits inside the right torso and has a series of ports which allow the
installation of energy weapons with minimal effort, allowing designers to swap
the AC for an Inner Sphere PPC or Large laser.

The short range armament is made up of an accurate medium pulse laser and an
SRM2 mounted into the right arm.

A flamer and a pair of machineguns mounted onto the left arm complete the
arsenal, giving the Agesilaus an effective anti-infantry weapons suite.

8 tons of ferro fibrous armour, gives the Agesilaus good protection against
enemy fire, but not enough to stand up to heavier mechs with more powerful
weapon systems.

Mounting 10 double-strength heat sinks, this design has few overheating
problems.

==Battle History:==
The first few models appeared just after the end of the Fed Com civil war, in
time to replace the heavy losses incurred by many units during the WOB Jihad.

The Agesilaus was a popular cost-effective design that could be easily
modified to accomodate a particular fighting style or weapons array. Though
in many ways it remained a jack of all trades mech.

The Agesilaus was a very good team player, fighting alongside other mechs, it
usually was a good support mech, using its varied weapon systems to deal with
potential problems.

==Variants:==
Easy to modify, the Agesilaus sprouted dozens of field variants. Many of
which involved the replacement of the AC/5 Ultra with either another weapon
system or boosting an existing one. PPC's were a popular modification giving
the Agesilaus a solid ranged punch. The upgrade to larger LRM's for fire
support was quite common too.

==Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:==
Leftenant Layla Ivansen-Gorzini

Layla sold some of her estates to purchase an Agesilaus to replace her
crippled Valkyrie in the closing days of the Fed Com civil war and hardly
regretted it. Assigned to a fire support lance in the 4th Crucis Lancers, she
replaced the AC with a RAC/5 creating a nasty surprise for those who strayed
too close.

Mechwarrior Buck "Jacknife" Karapansky

An eager bar-room brawler, Karapansky has caused his unit commander many
headaches and imposed fines. Thick-bearded and gruff in appearance, as
reckless in seeking out bars and seedy hangouts to start fights, his
battlefield tactics are often compared to a surgeon.

Blessed with a talent for tactics, Karapansky always finds a superior position
and exploit his ennemies' weaknesses. The varied armament of the Agesilaus
suits his fighting style, using it with deadly efficiency, often delivering a
deadly blow before the enemy sees it coming.

==Deployment==
With many people out to settle a personal score with the Word of Blake, the
affordable Agesilaus, armed with Clan technology was an obvious choice for
many. Although many still were picked up by Mercenaries, many more ended up
with regular units, forced to replace more specialised machines with
multi-role machines.

Nice fluff! Great way to add to the issues Clan Diamond Shark has to deal with!

I believe it's pronounced, "AGESILAUS."
Peace is that glorious moment in history when everyone stands around reloading.
