------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== Nicknamed the "Warhammer on tracks" the Sterling was designed to destroy any tank of similar size or smaller.
==Capabilities:== Design work on the Sterling began in early 2967. Comissioned in the SLDF in 2970, the Sterling soon equipped several heavy tank regiments as a heavy MBT and tank destroyer.
Armed with a pair of classic Donal PPC's the Sterling was a threat to tanks and mechs alike. The secondary Holly SRM6 launcher and a pair of machineguns gave this design a simple, but versatile weapons package.
The Sterling's business-like appearance was matched by its ruggedness. The broad heavy tracks gave superior cross country mobility and it could move over very soft ground without sinking. It could also cross broken ground which would have thrown the tracks of a lesser tank. Though it only had a top speed of 54 kph there was little that could stop a Sterling. Many enemy commanders were taken by surprise by SLDF Sterlings attacking through terrain they considered impassable for tanks.
The crew compartiment was unusually comfortable for a tank. Special straps and custom designed seats kept the crew securely in place when travelling over rough terrain at speed. The front-mounted engine allowed the placement of a rear exit door, which allowed fast exit and/or access for crews in case of emergency.
Protected by nearly 15 tons of armour, the Sterling could take several heavy hits before being knocked out and enemy troops often found that Sterlings fought on long after other tanks would have been knocked out.
==Battle History:== During the Civil War, the Sterling was assigned to assault mech units, paired with machines such as the Atlas and Devastator, they helped clear the way for lighter, more mobile forces.
It wasn't uncommon for lighter units to incorporate a batallion of Sterlings as a fire-base. Usually luring enemy forces into carefully laid ambushes.
During one battle a lance of Sterlings was isolated from its unit. Attacked by a company of light and medium mechs, the tanks fought ferociously, destroying many mechs before being finally overwhelmed. When reinforcements arrived they found 9 destroyed mechs alongside the burning hulks of the Sterlings. Amazingly all their crews survived and transferred to reserve tanks.
==Variants:== The "heater" replaced both machineguns with a pair of vehicle flamers.
==Notable Vehicles & Crew:== "Thomas Jackson"
This tank, painted a butternut colour and sporting a confederate flag on its antenna was credited with the destruction of four Rim Worlds mechs, including a Hunchback, a Vulcan and two Wasps. Immobilized early in the fight they fought on bravely, fighting until all their weapons were destroyed, the crew bailed out and hid in a ditch while the last few rampaging mechs finished destroying the rest of their lance. The crew received a special commendation from General Kerensky in person.
==Deployment== Nearly 25,000 Sterlings were in service with the SLDF before the Civil War.
Many accompanied Kerensky on his exile and most were destroyed during the Succession wars, often stripped for battlemech replacement parts.

Nice fluff. I have a tank with the same name but mine is a 100 tonner. I will posted it for a comparison and all.
Really like yours. And yes I too have done up the same idea of mechs to vehicles and vehicles to mechs.
