Overview:
The ArcAngel project started towards the end of 2750 and was to be Ground
Zero's Land Air Mech or LAM submission to the SLDF. The project got bogged
down with delays and misfortune, and the project was officially scrapped prior
to completion. Unofficially, the project was completed by company Owner Robert
Stonkin himself, and GZT built just one prototype of the unique 'mech. Dubbed
"Major Tom" by Mr. Stonkin the ArcAngel was stored away from prying eyes and
was only flown twice around the then Ground Zero facilities on Terra. With the
collapse of the Star League, the ensuing succession wars, and the Clan
invasion the fabled LAM of GZT was summarily forgotten except as a stories
told to now CEO Mark "Fang" Stonkin by his grandfather. Determined to validate
the claims of his grandfather, Stonkin funded two separate missions: One to the
planet Irece where the last known functioning LAM factory existed before the
Clan invasion, and one to Terra to locate the remnants of the original GZT
facilities; The missions were to recover any existing information and if
possible the prototype it self. While both missions were successful both
proved costly in both men and machines as the planet Irece was presently in
the hands of Clan Nova Cat and Terra in the hands of the Comstar faction Word
of Blake. The Irece team successfully transmitted the needed information
before contact was lost. No personnel returned. The Terran mission faired
slightly better with Stonkin's command lance returning along with the Major
Tom itself.

Capabilities:
As a 'mech, the ArcAngel is decent enough but breaks no new ground.
Weighing 55 tons, making it potent in its own right, the Major Tom's weapon
package is even more potent: a particle projection cannon backed up by five
medium lasers. When combined with its high mobility and its ability to keep
up with most 'mechs its size or smaller the ArcAngel is a solid strike and
recon unit. Eleven double strength heatsinks regulate the unit's operational
temperatures while 11 tons Aldis Plate armor provide protection against enemy
fire. Where the 'mech really stands out is in the conversion equipment that
allows the ArcAngel to alter its physical configuration to that of a fighter-mech hybrid and a fully equipped fighter. This conversion technology has been all but lost to the Inner Sphere, and Ground Zero is hoping to be able to bring it back.

Configuration / Variants:
the Major Tom is a prototype ArcAngel mech. no variants are available at this time.

Battle History:
The ArcAngel has only seen the light of day twice before its recent recovery. Both flights were smooth and had no complications.

Deployment:
Discussions are currently in progress with the 'merc unit Blighted Sun regarding deployments and trials of any new ArcAngels being produced. After the initial trials, the 'mech should be available for wide deployment. Following the rediscovery of the ArcAngel LAM, Ground Zero has fortified the defenses on its production plant to discourage any attempts by other companies or entities at acquiring a production model or other information on the unit's production through hostile means.

5 medium lasers and a PPC will give you 35 points of heat... And you can only dissipate 22 in a turn. Why not drop a laser or two and add more heat-sinks? A infantry team with Infernos will toast this guy real crispy, real quick

On another point most folks don't try to build Munchkin Always all to Alpha Strike death machines every time they build mechs.

Having a mech overheat is a good way to keep the players thinking and not just rushing forward killing everything in their path.

5 "ER" Medium Lasers and a PPC would be 35 heat. as the readout states, they are old school Mediums. bringing the grand total of weapon heat to 25. Me, i'd drop that heat sink for another med before i'd go the other way. 5-6 medium lasers and sinks to use them? i dont want to stand next to that guy. and the ppc? just wack they guy in the head with it! unforunately a medium is in the left arm... ohh well. i really like this design, Lam or not.

Overall it's an okay design, as you know I am not a fan of Alpha Strike Munchkin death machines that seem to be the only thing some folks can make...I will take a Rifleman or any 3025 mech any day over the pulse/targ combo with enough heat sinks to fire all day.

If I have a mech that has more weapons than heat, it is intended. I prefer having to think about what you are doing as to ploughing the road with everything every turn.

You can have more weapons then heat, but when a person uses the loop holes in the rules to build mechs that can gut other mechs in one turn or two at the most and can do this every time it fires the game loses the appeal to play it any more.

this is sorta getting off topic, but i want to put in my 2 cents first...

an uber munched out much that can do what you said is sad. kinda like kids shooting up a school, the parents let them be that way. a mech as you said will never exist with a propper game master.

Correct and thus having flaws is something all the mechs need or should have, since those flaws give the mech character, something the original TRO3025 mechs had and many of the newer mechs do not have.

I have played with a group that had the conversion equipment take up critical slots, they felt it was something that made it more fragile and closer to realism then not allowing it...

BS. It does too, pick level 3 then where it says type change it from to LAM. It does allow LAMS to be made.

Lets face it, ANY LAM at ANY stage of the BTech History is bound to be Experimental at best, and horridly flawed at worst... Even my Erishkegal Demi-LAM is much the same... Even if you start to get the Balance right, you should tip something (Design Philosophy: Speed / Armour / Weapons / Cost - Pick any 2 and a Half....)

As far as a LAM design goes - its solid... At the heavier end of things, but solid, and has a PPC which will fend off most things that are likely to keep up with it...

There is also a ground bound version of this machine I posted in the Ground Zero armory on www.solaris7.com. It does not have as many advanced features as the LAM version, as I was able to drop a couple with the weight savings of no conversion equipment. Weapons payload and movement are still the same.

With using the jump jets it generates up to 31 heat. Since it has one 10 heat long range system. Also one 15 heat short range system. I see no problem with heat. Just don't jump and fire all of the weapons.
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.
