Something I was thinking of, for a scenario where a military/ para-military faction had to rely on guerilla tactics to harass an entrenched and/or occupying enemy. Since logistics are a VERY important part of any operation, and since BattleMechs were designed to be able to go where conventional vehicles could not, the logical question was: how would the supply train keep up with the BattleMechs? So I thought that, given the fact that we already have this like AgroMechs and MiningMechs, a CargoMech to carry supplies would not be too improbable. In fact, it made alot more sense to me than any of the afore-mentioned designs, but let us not nit-pick...
The Muler-40 can carry 20 tons of cargo, and has a single small laser for point defense. It has a military-rated fusion power unit (since it will be operating with military units most of the time), but utilizes composite internal structure and a small cockpit to save weight.
Code:

Any comments?

I like every aspect of this concept. It seems like a very wise idea.
However, I have to be a buzzkill: to carry cargo, the 'mech has to be a workmech. To be a workmech, it must have the workmech internal structure, which is double normal internal structure weight. That means the composite IS is out.
The small cockpit is fine, though. Workmechs have an option for limited cockpit, IIRC.

Funny - the Drawing Board allows you to pick composite IS when designing a WorkMech. I thought the WorkMech designation just gave certain prerequisites, instead of creating a new type of IS?

The Drawing Board is getting to be quite dated. AFAIK, it's last update predates TechManual by several years.

Nope. It uses a whole new IS. Things were a bit fuzzy with MaxTech's take on workmechs, but TechManual was written to leave no doubt about the difference.

Overall though his idea is a lot better then some the ones that are official.

Yes. As I said before, a lot of them seem to be the product of a mech-happy society rather than pressing economic need.

It's decent. Your's has a role and purpose that isn't grounded in being a odd ball jury rigged machine converted to a combat unit just because it was handy. This is something the Houses would use and would more then likely have for some units or at least for units that are operating in terrain that hinders vehicles.

Okay, since Small cockpits are not legal, I guess that would mean a Standard WorkMech cockpit instead and one less ton of cargo in one of the side torsos.

I thought the ER weaponry were level 2?
Anyway, it could be swapped out for a normal small laser, or a light MG with a quarter ton of ammo.

Unless you used Clan ER weapons instead of IS ER weapons then it would be level 3. But other wise you are correct IS ER weapons are Level 2.

They have changed things, the IS has ER meds and smalls now all at level 2.
If it's possible you guys need to get Battletech Master Rules Revised and Heavy Metal Pro for mech building.
So to recap the IS has ER LL, ER ML, ER SL, as well as their pathic pulse lasers.

The Drawing Board is outdated, it hasn't been update to include a lot of the new stuff the IS or Clans have. So you may want to get Heavy Metal Programs so you have the current and official building programs.
And if you have BMR-R then you know the IS had ER Medium and ER Smalls. They are in there.

Yes all of that is level 2 for the IS...you really need to get some of the newer books...and BMR-R is a good start as would be getting the Total Warfare rule book and the Tech Manual Rule book.

so... what is the explination as to why non of these weapons appear in the 3050/3055 readouts? is that time period level 1.5 tech? lol, j/k or were the houses secretly holding back weaponry from the public eye? : )

The weapons came out after 3055. The IS got a lot of help from the Dragoons and more info out of the Helm Memory Core as well as getting the chance to reverse engineer Clan tech.
