[off-topic] game design / development in general?

If you want to take a look at game design / development in general:
http://www.igda.org/
The site hosts some really nice articles / white papers, including the following one:
"2004 Persistent Worlds Whitepaper" [note: Adobe PDF-File, PDF-viewer required]:
www.igda.org/online/IGDA_PSW_Whitepaper_2004.pdf
Admittedly slightly outdated (from 2004, "World of Warcraft" hype era is about to start), but still a very interesting read (approx. 80 pages).

Bump, sticky, and move to game suggestions -- for that third link, at least

Perhaps WWS can use all the documentation that Invasion 3042 are using?
Whoops, ill put the lid back on that can of worms.

If you've read the "THE 400 PROJECT RULE LIST" already you might have noticed that several Nev updates of the past 'violated' and or ignored some of the very basic rules mentioned in the list.
Any Nev-updates related déjà-vu feelings, DireMage?

another nice link I stumbled upon some time ago but simply forgot to add, sorry:
"Online Community Management: Communication Through Gamers"
http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3603/online_community_management_.php
Any Nev-related déjà-vu feelings ?
What 'decimated' the player base / community at Neveron?
The introduction of forced faction wars?
Neveron's own player base (ongoing empire 'cannibalism'?, e.g. due to automated skill-ups and general lack of other targets (no re-introduction of Player vs. Environment (PvE) elements, like say: AI-pirates?))?
Noob killer empires on "Noob Cannibal Island" (TM)?
"Win at all costs - and by all means - attitude" of some players?
Or maybe, just maybe, simply an almost lethal mix all of the above, probably plus a few other factors not yet mentioned / listed?
Just some food for thought ...

A guy named Raul Aliaga recently commented on and added "Some useful links" to the previously mentioned Gamasutra topic / link (see previous post):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanism_design
(note: much more to explore at wikipedia)
"What is Mechanism Design? Explaining the research that won the 2007 Nobel Prize in Economics."
http://www.reason.com/news/show/122998.html
Just some additional food for thought ...
Have a nice day / night.
