Story of the HL:STG vs Legion FWAR. Written by mattbuck.

On the last day of November 2007, House Liao: The Scorpion Guard (HL:TSG) declared a factionwar against Legion. Since their faction had two level elevens (the faction leader, Newfoundglory, and Scorpion Thunder), a level ten (Dol Amroth) and a level nine (Riders of Rohan), I was quite worried that it would be a big gangbang on The Red Legion. Thankfully, we managed to secure a defence contract with Aventia of HoC, one of the nastiest level elevens on Neveron, but not before Scorpion Thunder had attacked. I managed to secure a DC with Storm`s Metal Thunder, a level nine DD empire. Thus, having staved off gangbang on our largest two empires, we started attacking their lower levels. My own Platonian Empire Beta Archipelago started with Scorpions Poison, a level four, quickly securing CF1; followed by Vorlons. That was more interesting, as it turned out it was owned by Pausanian, master of being annoying. Although I took his main base (conveniently labelled “Vorlons Main Base”), salvaging a WTH-1 and killing a load of towers, he put me on my back foot, and I was down to CF2 under the combined assault.

Beta’s saviour was a mercenary from 4legion – a level three called Hells Furnace. “Borrowed” by gobi because it had wads of cash, it attacked the empire skinwalker, before taking on Vorlons, and succeeding within hours, destroying several small mechs and a company of HNT-0A, as well as a few other assorted tanks. Skinwalker surrendered fairly quickly and without much of a fight.

We were gaining ground, but TRL was under attack, and was CFed within hours as Scorpion Thunder took outlying pop. However, it was not losing BV, and the entrance to the core was holding strong. We did later find out that two technology complexes had been taken.

Another Legion empire which helped out was Gibber. Recently given to Big after Slaine had to quit Nev, I took it for a stroll through Ashanti Empire, an unfortunately levelled up three owned by ex-Legion member Delta Leader. The first assault on Ashanti’s main city took out its defence of a GRD-2 company, and though I attempted to attack several other cities just as the zone resolved to try and take him straight to surrender, I ended up taking those cities but not the main city when he went to CF2. By the time his ceasefire had worn off, his biggest city was defended again, and so I took in the mech lance accompanied by the sniper lance. Inside I found three BEH-IDF, a sniper, a manticore and numerous smaller vehicles including HNT-0A and GRD-2. The flat terrain helped Gibber’s walker mechs navigate, and the large number of buildings (for a level three) ensured that I could close on the LRM vehicles with near-impunity. After an hour or two of fighting the zone was won, and Ashanti was surrendered. We also hired Hoppy as a mercenary, on the basis that we needed every empire we could get because HoC couldn’t help us due to their non-aggression pact with HL. However, he attacked, decided he liked his target, and then buggered off until the end of the FWAR. Pathetic.

Of course, we weren’t the only ones to hire mercenaries – Newfoundglory hired a few level four mercs, and then a level eight from NC-HEC, Chemical Ba†h, who set about attacking Murphy’s level eight Fluffy Bunny Love. FBL was quickly CFed, but later managed to retake nearly all his land, forcing Chemical Ba†h back to his core. That tale is told best in The Bravest Hornet that ever Fought on Neveron. However, Chemical Ba†h was setting himself up for a fall as, with help from DD, we declared war with Jack Daniels, one of the best level eight empires on Neveron, and proceeded to smash his core, killing several DP mechs including two Vortices, as well as an “Uber-Stalker”. The owner of Chemical Ba†h, ThePowerIHold, or TPIH for short, unfortunately decided that this was the end of Neveron for him. However, he later relented. He did however put up quite a fight, headcapping a GRF-DEST and coring an Imp. The empire, however, was ruined with its core exposed.

While all this was going on, other Legion members were putting up a fight. Tumppi and Death Tornado took on several empires, as did Gobi’s The Church of John once it was able to merc. But it is to Gibber we return, for the attack on Nukumville. It didn’t seem to be going so well, with Nukumville trapping Gibber’s mechs. However, a Catapult out on its own spoilt his chances, as he was reduced to three mechs, which were trapped in the adjacent zone. Playing a game of “stand in partial cover and try to blow each others’ heads off” did not go well for him as Gibber’s PPCs slammed into him, decapitating a GRF-1S and coring a TDR-5SE. We let his final GRF-1N go, not wishing to see another empire destroyed needlessly, but on the proviso that he surrender.

Back in The Red Legion, we had lost CF2, but Scorpion Thunder had still not beaten the core entry zone, and had had terrible trouble taking a city whose primary defence was a regiment of machine gun jeeps. Gobi started hitting back, striking at the enemy’s TCs and repair bays. House Liao quickly self-surrendered, stating that they needed to stop the war to deal with exams. Still, it was a very difficult and intense war, but still with some fun.
