I have been an on and off Neveron player for about 5 years now. I always seem to burnout on this game after a few months but never make it more than a year before it draws me back in. During this time I have lost a few small empires to inactivity. One thing that I think would have drawn me back into the game sooner is that if I had the option to restart my empire with the research I had previously completed despite my empire being deleted. Imo this would help attract people back to the game a bit sooner if they ever got fed up with it and lost an empire to inactivity as it would mean they would never have to start right back from the very start and have just a few more options open to them due to there time spent with the game previously. Obviously there would need to be a cap of say perhaps 10rp (first realistic number I can think of) after which any new empire would not start on the newb island.
Unless this would be more effort than it is worth to code or some simmilar technical issue I can't see any drawbacks.
If this idea does suck for some reason I haven't thought of please tell me. I would rather get flamed than be ignored

I like the basis of this idea very much. It would most definitely improve gameplay, though I bet WWS wouldnt want it on the grounds that "research is supposed to be hard/long term".

How about being able to use research already completed by the FL? Or be able to share research in the faction, instead of increased research have "development time". You can take x amount of time to learn a given research from another person in the faction (say x10 or x100 speed).

oddly enuff, the very first idea is close to actually doing what he wants, simply by keeping an empire active.
Research is never lost, so even if your inactive L9 gets the crap kicked out of it, the empire, along with its research will still exist. Now if you are truely unable to maintain a log in at least once a month, to prevent the empire from deletion, then you risk losing the empires research progress. There are many ways that you can accomplish this, as in faction mates, RL friends that might co run the empire with you, or simply you finding exactly 2 minutes to log in and click on your research empire and log in long enuff to look at your finance page and the research page.
A vacation mode would certainly allow for longer absences, and maybe down the road, the time could be spent to code such a thing. However, as coding time is already very limited as things are, I wouldnt expect to much time devoted to any ideas relating to this topic
