"Total Re-Poll", or: "I'll be back ...":
taken from an old _unofficial_ poll of mine - which unfortunately got locked by a player admin (PA) -, and which has been kind of 'invisible' at the archives section for some time now (database 'glitch' due to server move / update / upgrade / whatever?):
Quote:
Do you want Player vs. Environment (PvE) elements / action (on demand)?
At the moment Neveron offers several ways of Player vs. Player (PvP)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Player_versus_Player
interaction - like landwar (PvP), raids (PvP), arenas (PvP), but only two Player vs. Environment (PvE) elements (the auto-quest and the arena simulator) so far .
Of course Player vs. Player interaction (= war between players) tends to be much more challenging, rewarding (loot, salvage, conquered infra, war related skill checks, combat related reputation and morale gains, surrender income, etc.) and much more fun as well - well, at least for the 'winner' -, than playing / fighting against a more or less smart AI opponent and its more or less predictable maneuvers.
Only problem is if there is a focus on PvP elements almost exclusively, with the 'winner(s)' preying on and or wiping out the 'loser(s)' in the aforementioned Player vs. Player scenario, you know, in order to have some 'fun', then it's only a matter of time till a playerbase starts shrinking, well, at least in a small niche market game like Neveron with a fairly limited amount of existing players and only very few new players joining from time to time.
Simply imagine a small pond full of old crocodiles (old empires, veterans) with a few new baby crocodiles (noobs) from another pond joining, while the summer sun shrinks the size of the pond ...
Anyway, what do you inevitably get if one half of a playerbase has got to prey on and or wipe out the other half of a playerbase in order to have some 'fun'?
A shrinking playerbase, maybe ...?
And what do you inevitably get if one half of the people providing a game's main content (PvP elements) has got to prey on and or wipe out the other half of the people providing a game's main content (PvP elements) in order to have some 'fun'?
Less of a game's main content (PvP elements) which focusses on PvP almost exclusively - and or more boredom, maybe ...?
How to fix this problem (shrinking playerbase / less (PvP related) game 'content')?
Either via attracting more new players (expensive(?) advertising required?) - and then watch way too many of them die early on "Noob Cannibal Island" (NCI, TM)?
Or simply via providing some more innocent, admin coded Player vs. Environment elements (not as a replacement for PvP elements, but an additional element of fun and entertainment (on demand)), for examply via simply recyling and rearranging some already existing - and or playtested -, game elements (like AI pirates (on demand), or like relaunchable, slightly modified auto-quests (on demand)) which could help to lessen the burden of at least half of the remaining playerbase - and including a lot of the new players?
So do you want Player vs. Environment (PvE) elements / action (on demand)?
In my very humble opinion the topic of this poll is still worth discussing ...
Just in case that you never had the opportunity to vote in the aforementioned _unofficial_ poll, well, here we go: "Total Re-Poll" ... [yet another _unofficial_ (re-)poll, please see next post for (re)-poll (details), and you better hurry - and vote while you still can do so (thread/poll not yet locked) ...]
Have a nice day/night!
