The nonvoting negative trait
      #152233 - 11/04/08 03:41 PM (207.160.205.13)

The nonvoting negative trait prohibits a character from voting on a day that has election(s) and/or legislation to be voted upon. It provides a +1 increase to a character's character points total per nonvoting negative trait achieved.

And that all aside..

Is any Inner Sphere nation a democracy? Last time I checked the closest thing they had to a democratic goverment was Comstar..

The Magestry isn't. You're probably thinking of the Taurian Condorat- they are the closest thing to a democracy.

In the Roman sense, I guess, namely the army picks whoever rules.

Also here's a interesting fact for you, all of these groups have a clear ruling family (MoC: Centrella, TC: Calderon, and so on), which goes against democracy, if you ask me. (please, don't get me started on the Bush family)

England is a close cousin to a Democracy (Constitutional Monarchy with an Elected house, the House of Lords, A Prime Minister, and the Royal Family)

To be fair all the royal family does is look cool, and pretend to be the heads of state for half the world (as they once were), I don't think they have much say in how the country's run. Plus, if they did, it'd rather go against the principles of democracy, wouldn't it?

Edge points should rapidly return to those that don't vote.

In politics voters get let down after their favorite candidates/political parties keep losing (if they do). So voters stop voting and good karma benefits them (if they have good intentions). So they can use that good karma to recover lost edge points.

Sounds like someone's pissed off that his canditate didn't win a election..Well if you couldn't drag yourself up off your ass to vote for your canditate, you also lost the right to complain about it.

Not necessarily. Fool me once (my favored candidate lost once) shame on opposing voter. Fool me twice (my favored candidate lost twice) shame on me. Fool me thrice won't happen because I won't vote thrice for a temporarily failing candidate/political party.

"Don't blame me, I didn't vote", in other words? Guess what, that argument's bull s**t. Vote or don't, but don't go crying like a baby when the guy you wanted to win didn't because he didn't get the votes to.

Plus, as has been already said, this so called "negative trait" is nothing more than free character building points as virtually none of the Battletech nations are democracies, let alone hold a real election on anything!

Ok, then how about a Subjected to Dictatorship negative trait that provides recovery of edge points for each corrupt legislation passed? And from what I understand the Rim Collection is a direct democracy.

No way, regaining edge points is not supposed to be that easy. And note that I said most. Who cares about a five planet minor periphery power, anway? *yet to see a character made in the rpg from that state*

MW3RPG says that regaining edge points is based on karma. So if someone is having good karma by supporting good candidates then he/she gets good edge points recovered. I guess this trait is to be called Quirk Support Of Good Office Candidates.
