Overview: Back in the early- to mid-3020s, a group of ambitious young "visionaries" banded together with a single motivating purpose...to revolutionize the modern battlefield with radical new Battlemech design concepts. They eventually formed Johnson 'Mechworks, Inc., a small, short-lived design firm known only for a handful of notoriously off-the-wall 'Mech blueprints. Like many startups, they were best known for their failures, and the company folded without ever selling a single design or constructing a single functional 'Mech, but the recent "rebirth" of the company has resulted in an unearthing of many designs thought to be lost. One of the first was the ETU-2S Etruscan, a lumbering brute of an assault 'Mech that nevertheless shows much potential...for the battlefield of that time. While current military technology renders the design hopelessly obsolete, it still stands as a strong testament to the creative potential of even the most disturbed mind...
Capabilities: The original Etruscan was designed as a long-range fire-support 'Mech, but much attention was given to plugging the perennial weaknesses of such "specialty" 'Mechs as the venerable Archer and Awesome. The first issue was mobility...the sheer cost of 300+ ton-rated engines limited the Etruscan to its current speed, but a set of massive Smithson Lifters Jump Jets allow it to maintain a respectable pace in tough terrain or the dreaded urban environment. Also, the design was loaded up with close-range weaponry to deal with anything rushing inside minimum range of the primary weapons. Four SperryBrowning machine guns deter infantry from even attempting to approach, and rear-mounted lasers protect the always-vulnerable rear arc against speedy flankers. All in all, a potent, versatile package, easily a match for any of the familiar assault 'Mech designs of the era.
Variants: Only the above configuration was drawn up by the original design team, but the current crop at JMInc. have cooked up an impressive refit with more up-to-date technology. If they are successful at getting funding, the refitted Etruscan definitely has the potential to become the Assault 'Mech standard of tomorrow's battlefield.

My Blurb: Because as the Old Dogs around here probably remember, I always include a "My Blurb" with my design posts
This is one from my archives...I dug it up off an old post and transcribed it over to SSW, since I can't seem to get TDB to work properly Enjoy. I'll post the L2 refit shortly.

Nice solid design.... not sure on a few points tho.
Only 12 shots per launcher.... not good for extended operations but i suppose with that speed it won't be going to far anyway...
And 20 HS..... that seems high for this kind of mech..... still it works.

Well, 12 shots per launcher is about average for most 'Mechs of the era...the Archer carries only that much, most heavy-AC designs carry only 10 shots. A slight refit for extended support roles could drop 2 of the Miniguns to upgrade to 16 shots per LRM-rack I suppose. As for the large number of HS...2xLRM-15 + 1xPPC = 20 heat from weapons. In close you have movement plus the lasers plus the PPC plus the odd short-range LRM shot adds up to 20 in a hurry.

I remember the name...never could pronounce it!
It got rave reviews in '05 (Archive)
I'd put it along side my Henchman (link) They'd make a nice long/short combo with a couple of lighter, faster mechs for support.

Your ETU-2S Etruscan is a little ammo weapon heavy, but it does make up for that with having plenty of ammo.
I saw on both mechs there jump capable.
"I think I will pass on that death from above, thank you!"
"That might leave lasting impression!"
"What is 85 tons and jumps? I don't know, but I am not waiting around to find out!"
"Did not that Etruscan land on a Locust? We don't know, we are still trying to dig the Etruscan out of its crater."
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.
I was a Major *pain* before
But I got a promotion.
I am now a General *pain*
Yay for promotions!!!
