Overview: Built in the direct aftermath of the WOB Jihad, the Apophis, was Clan Diamond Shark's answer to the Fafnir. Although Inner Sphere factions have tried to copy Clan designs serveral times, the opposite has been rare at most.
Designed to inspire fear and terror in enemy pilots, much like the centuries old Atlas it was mainly aimed for sale at the Clans rather than the Inner Sphere. Some believe this was meant as a conciliatory gesture towards the Clans over the sale of designs such as the Mad Cat II to the Inner Sphere.
Capabilities: Armed with a pair of fearsome Hyper Assault Gauss Rifles, the similarities to the Fafnir are striking. Yet the Apophis, named after the snake demon god of the Egypitans stands even more imposing.
The Apophis is one of the tallest mechs ever made and looks even more massive than the Fafnir. The secondary armament consisting of a pair of Large Lasers was selected to be highly visible, leaving enemy piliots little doubt about the sheer lethal firepower this machine can unleash.
Carrying the heaviest armour possible, the Apophis is very hard to knock out without a lot of firepower. Worse yet, in single combat it can dish out more than most enemies can bring to bear. With large ammunion bays, scattered all over the torso, legs and arms, the Apophis has a good endurance on the field and can fall back on its paired ER large lasers should the HAG ammo run out.
Battle History: The Apophis is a relatively recent design and has seen little action. The standard design means that most end up in garrison clusters. It came too late for action in the Jihad
Observers are waiting for the inevitable facing off with the Fafnir, and most claim that the Apophis should triumph in this engagement.
Deployment: Only a handful of Apophis mechs seem to have found their way to the Inner Sphere. One was spotted at the NAIS on New Avalon. Another was reported in the recently rebuilt Solaris VII arenas, but hasn't fought yet.
Variants: No known variants exist at this time
