Overview:
The near complete destruction of most Randam Mechwerks production facilities by
the Word of Blake was a dark day in the history of this innovative company.
Without access to parts, production of most designs at the few smaller plants
that had escaped destruction halted overnight until suitable replacement
sources could be secured.

In order to raise the necessary cash to keep the company running, designers
rushed the Retaliator into service.

Capabilities:
Although primitive by the standards of the 3070's, the Retaliator made us of
old stockpiled weapons and existing parts. The designers knew that the
Retaliator had many shortcuts, but it was a smart design that was designed from
the ground up to be upgraded using more advanced parts as they would become
available. Both the internal structure and engine bay were designed to be
upgraded to Endo Steel and XL engines with greater ease than most existing
battlemechs. The weapons were installed in mountings inspired by omnimechs,
though they lacked true omni capablity replacing the weapon systems with more
advanced equipment was intended to be quick and fast.

The Retaliator did find its way into militia and mercenary units and to those
on a budget in need of versatile heavy mechs. The Retaliator carries an
autocannon, large laser and missile launcher as its main weaponry, backed up by
lasers, machineguns and a flamer. As a result it is a versatile design, but
lacking a true dedicated purpose.

With a relatively low heat curve, double strength heat sinks, regular engine,
good armour and CASE protecting the ammo bays, the Retaliator is a resillient
design that can take a beating and still go. Most designs in its category tend
to be mediums and subsequently the Retaliator often acts as a big brother for
such units.

Battle History:
Dozens of Retaliators were kept at the factories alongside the remaining stocks
of defensive units. Surprisingly they performed quite adequately against
raiders and WOB mopping up teams sent to destroy the last remains of a company
that had so openly opposed them.

In the final days of the Jihad a strike team of WOB mercernaries was sent in to
finish the job once and for all. Holding back their more advanced designs, the
factory guards and planetary militia and hired mercenaries fought a delaying
action, throwing large numbers of Retaliators into the fight. Their lack of
advanced technology sometimes working to their advantage as the enemy relied on
ECM to jam C3 and advanced targeting equipment.

With heavy losses and a final suicidal attempt to destroy the factories by
crashing a dropship into them the Randam forces managed to save the factories
and round up the last survivors. The WOB detonated a small nuclear device that
killed many of the surving defenders and WOB's own mercs.

But the Retaliator had saved Randam and its future. Retooled just in time for
the final push against the WOB, the REF (Randam Expeditionary Force) of nearly
two battalions was sent into action, among them a few surviving Retaliators
equipped with the latest technology and intent on paying back the WOB for the
death and destruction they had caused.

Deployment:
Retaliators were bought by periphery worlds, militias, Mercenaries on a budget
and anybody in need of a cheap, polyvalent heavy mech.

Though once production of more advanced Randam mechs resumed, production ceased
and the design was retooled with more advanced tech.

Variants:
Few Retaliators remained standard for long. The ease of conversion and smart
layout meant that more advanced components and weapons could be installed
quickly and cheaply.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:
"Revenant"

Piloted by Captain Aurora Bilanovka, the Revenant particpated in some of the
heaviest fighting to save the Randam production facilities. Badly damaged by
the nuke, her mech still proudly bore the burn scars when the REF mopped up the
remnants of the WOB.

The Light PPC was not contracted to these particular Randam Mechwerks facilities, so there were little or no stocks, while AC/5 were available in substantial numbers. Some were replaced by standard PPC's or an LRM 10. The low heat factor of the AC/5 was considered an advantage at the time.
