The Last Great HoC Archive Revision
      #156182 - 08/27/09 05:06 AM (24.19.231.129)

Friends and Nev'ers past and present,

I have given this a great deal of consideration the past few months. 'This' being my decision to complete the final great revision & update of the venerable HoC Archive.

Few are aware that an unreleased major update to the HoC Archive was completed in January of 2008, an update that completely reshaped the chapters of early pre-HoC history and in total added some 30 pages of material to the book (finally smashing the troublesome 300 page barrier).

I chose not to release this update because, to be quite frank, I thought I was releasing updates far too frequently. It dilluted a lot of the enthusiasm for the material.

It was approximately three years ago, however, that the concept of a HoC Archive was born (how time flies), and my perceptions of the book, what it is, and what it should be, have changed significantly in that time.

That all said, I will tell you what I intend to do to the HoC Archive, and what I hope you will do for it.

- I am going to refocus on larger meta issues, such as care & feeding of community, guild/faction/alliance sustainability, personality and gaming, and use the nuts and bolts of the HoC Archive as interest, support and example.

- The book will chronicle not the rise of HoC, but the evolution of Neveron's player community, in the context of the birth and rise of HoC.

What I hope some of you might contribute:

- Your views on Neveron's lifespan, and how the community was influenced by, and itself influenced the game's development and history.

- Your views on HoC's rise, whether they be objective or subjective.

- How Neveron's community developed over the years, miletones, fractures, and what/who was the inspiration for its high points, and what/who was the cause of its low points.

What I will not tolerate:

- HoC/Anti-HoC rhetoric. This book is not for you, if that is all you can still think about.

Just about anything else goes.

I will admit this basic theme that I will not stray from, as I do not believe it can be legitimately challenged: No player(s) or faction(s) killed Neveron. Randy and WWS killed Neveron. Period, end of story. Fin.

I think you can all see how major this change to the book will be. When it is complete it will in fact be a completely new text. I do not expect it to be finished any time soon, this will likely take months, perhaps a year, of thought and editing on my part.

If you would like to contribute, that is awesome.

Best regards,

Kato
