Overview: By far one of the most iconic mechs ever, the AS-7D Altas, conceived by General Kerensky was a staple of SLDF assault units in the waning years of the Star League.
Whilst it was considered a highly succesful design, pilots fighting in the Amaris War did report that the Atlas had superior short range firepower, but lacked a similar ranged punch.
SLDF engineers came up with a popular, but rarely used field upgrade which remained all but unkown until the 3080 as reports showed up in Comstar archive backups.
Capabilities: The upgrade involved swapping out the old single heat sinks for double strength ones The weight saved allowed techs to install a Kreuss PPC onto the right arm, switching the medium laser to the left arm. Three extra heat sinks offered much needed extra cooling capacity.
The addition of a PPC did put undue strain on the Atlas' Army Comp targeting system. A problem which was solved by adding the weapon management module from a Spar 3C system found on Stalker mechs, allowing the pilot to select a series of weapon groups, considerably easing targeting problems.
A rather unfortunate side effect of mounting the underslung Kreuss to the arm was the danger of damaging the weapon system or in some cases of knocking the weapon loose when fighting and punching. Most pilots who had this update preferred to fight at range anyway lessening the problem.
Another problem was the extra maintenance involved. Even with double-strength heat sinks the Krauss PPC had the unexpected tendency to overheat, causing extra strain on the already beleaguered arm actuators. Without regular maintenance and steady replacement of actuators, the risk of the right arm becoming increasingly useless was very real.
Battle History: Several modified Atlas mechs participated in fights in the final days of the Amaris Civil War. Amaris forces often used lighter mobile units with long range weaponry to force the Atlas to use up its supply of LRMs until it was safe to gun it down using heavier units armed with long range weaponry. The PPC ensured that such tactics became risky at best.
Variants: This variant did not survive the end of the Star League. Attempts were made to use the lighter and cooler large laser, but without advanced heat sinks such upgrades meant downgrading the mech elsewhere. None made it through the First Succession War.

Quick-n-easy upgrade. I like it, and the attention to detail with the targeting computer.

Fluff is good.
Not sure why you had to tell us this is Tournament Legal, again that is something 90% of don't care about. But besides that overall it's a decent upgrade.

Good fluff for a great design. I love the extra firepower that PPC gives it at any range.
