Okay who will be using this one? I like it, but need some more info...any chance of getting the HMP or TDB file for this one?

I cannot remember the exact background any more, but it was suppose to be a EW companion to the Awesome, built and designed by the same company. There is an command version that drops the active probes and one of the ECM's for a C3M module, turning it into the second-lightest 'Mech with a C3M unit (lightest is a 45-tonner, not sure of name now). Oh, and that ER small laser is rear-mounted, to prevent general sneakiness, and also to deter Elementals. The only gripe I have with it is the slow speed, but when taken in context with its mission profile - fire- and EW support to heavier designs (who will match it in speed anyway) - I guess it does not really matter that much. Given the high tech, I also would not say it was too common in use, and probably not anytime before 3064, '63 at the earliest.

Deployment-wise, this guy would usually be in the second wave disembarking from the DropShip - light scouts first to set up a perimeter, then this guy with his heavy/assault buddies for a heavier presence, as well as reconnaisance-in-force once the entire DropShip load has been delivered. As a patrol 'Mech, it would function best in areas where decent sensor coverage would be more important than speed - built-up areas, swampy terrain, rocky areas, basically any place where enemy forces can hide well, but not move too quickly once detected.

Here is the command version:

The Cardinal is actually suppose to use the Archer Expansive Sensory System (ESS) equipment, never got 'round to integrating it though. Will post the details now - it is a piece of equipment that, similar to the TC, is slaved to all the sensors in the 'Mech: active probes, ECM's, TAG's and C3 modules, as well as AMS- and Laser AMS systems. It basically increases their range and functionality, although deploying the array (it consists of a set of fold-out panels on the 'Mech's side torsos, depending where it was mounted) reduces the 'Mech's speed and increases the chances of a critical hit if it should take damage to an location with a deployed ESS in it. There are currently two versions: The Kuritan system, called the Origami ESS (original design, about 3 tons for two crits, can slave up to three non-AMS sensors) and the FedCom system, the Archer ESS ('inspired' by the Origami, about 4 tons for four crits, can slave up to four sensors, as well as a free AMS slave; additional AMS's after the first take up normal slave slots).

Once deployed, the 'Mech cannot move more than 3 hexes per turn (although it can turn as much as it wants), cannot jump, and cannot enter water hexes of depth 2 and deeper. ECM's and AP's get a 50% increase to range though, and if the Mech has a C3S or C3M module, it cannot be jammed by any single enemy ECM (so you need two ECM's to jam a C3 module on a Mech with a deployed ESS - one to jam the ESS, and one for the C3S).

The ESS can only be mounted in side torsos, and consists of a very advanced sensor array connected to a collapsible antennae assembly built into the side torso armour panels. When deployed, these panels rise up from the side torso (hinged at the top of the torso) and swing forward through 180 degrees before coming to a halt at an vertical angle above the 'Mech. The sensor array, built into this panel and now facing outward ('Mech front) at a much-elevated position, can thus increase the efficiency of any systems slaved to it - extending range, improving jamming capabilities for ECM modules, as well as tracking incoming missiles to assist any counter-missile fire from AMS's slaved to the ESS (any AMS slaved to the ESS will get a +2 on the roll to determine how many missiles it can destroy, but without an increase in ammunition expenditure). In the deployed position, the ESS reduces the armour on the location by 25%(round down), up to a maximum of 5 points. This represents the armour being lifted away from the chassis to hoist the ESS, and consequently reduce the efficiency of the armour in the affected location. Once the ESS is collapsed again, the armour points are restored. In this deployed position, any hit to the location will also roll on the Crit Hit Possibility table, even though the armour was not pierced. This represents the exposed nature of the 'Mech's innards when the ESS is deployed.

I think that is about it. Both versions of the Cardinal listed above should have the 4-ton Archer ESS built in, probably at expense of the RAC(move LRM and ammo to arm and mount the ESS in the RT). Comments on the system would be appreciated, as it this point I am using it mainly for fluff. A Capellan system would probably be up and running soon, and Marik got copies of the Archer through WoB (and therefore ComStar).

Would anyone be interested in actually using the ESS rules? I posted them somewhere here, could have some nice applications in EW and urban combat.
