This is essentially and offshoot of my thinking about a technological way to implement a form the phantom mech ability, albeit the effects would be quite different.

I started out thinking 3040-45ish. But it looks like the Null Signature doesn't get rediscovered (assuming SSW is right), so I backed up to the Star Leauge /1st Succession War era and tried to fluff it a little.

Overview:
The Cuirass is the smallest of four Battlemechs released to the market in 2729
in the aftermath of the Davion War of Succession. Losses of lives for the
Battlemech owning nobility was a centuries long problem for all of the Great
Houses that reached a fever pitch of concern in Davion space as a result of the
war. The panic easily spread to the Free Worlds League due to its own Marik
Civil War and then on to the rest of the Inner Sphere.

The Cuirass, and other Battlemechs in the line designated by "SB," were
specifically designed to keep the "Mama's Boys"/"Daddy's Little Girls" of the
Great Houses safe on the battlefield. To those ends, each design uses a
Null-Signature System, heavy armor for its class, C.A.S.E., durable standard
engine configurations, jump jets (except in the assault class), an
anti-infantry weapon (you don't want one of those scenes where the peasants
ambush the prince's horse, drag him off, and beat him to death - only
Battletech style.), a long-range main gun (so there is no need to get to close
to the action), and a solid short-range weapon, so that the little darling can
look spectacular finishing off his/her lancemates hard work.

Production ceased in 2790. The Null-Signature System had proven too expensive,
fragile, and hot for most MechWarriors. So, the company producing it folded
and the technology went into the history books. Without replacement parts for
the stealth system the number of Cuirass soon began to drop. None are believed
to have survived ROM's 2838 Operation Holy Shroud.

The Cuirass' main gun is a LRM-5 backed up by a medium laser. It was typically
piloted by very low ranking royals who were obligated to serve in some military
capacity for the House or an approved of mercenary unit. Purchasing a Cuirass
often pushed these families' finances to the brink of bankruptcy, but at least
the kids were "safe."

Capabilities:
Much to the delight of the over-protected/smothered royals who piloted the
Cuirass, its stealth ability often earned it the most dangerous reconnaissance
assignments. The light weapons systems usually kept Cuirass pilots from
bothering to engage in combat as it was easily out matched by most other light
mechs, especially at close range. However, it performed well as an
indirect-fire spotter and at hit-and-run attrition.

So you made a smaller Exterminator? I could see that happening given that the Exterminator was a decent mech and feared by the enemy.

Seeing as the design was to create a survivable mech, shouldn't that LRM ammo be surrounded with heat sinks? CASE is nice but the best protection from an ammo explosion is to aviod it in the first place IMO : )

Or at least reduce the % chance of it.

Enjoyed the fluff...

Would they not concider reskinning the mech with standard armor to keep the it in service?
