Now how many of you can recognize which mech was number 3 on the list before reading more than the name? Code:

Overview Another recent DCMS revamp, the Kin Ryu (Gold Dragon, ed) takes the treatement done to the Panther and the Tora and gives it to what must be considered the signeature battlemech of the entire Combine, namely the Dragon.
While nowhere near as troubled a design as the previous two, it was felt that to bring the Dragon up to date would be well advised, after all the 3050's era refit of the Grand Dragon had left some DCMS members feeling less than impressed, particularly with the fact that it had used a large extra light engine which badly degraded the design's survivability, although it did improve the speed, if not by that large a margin.
Capabilities Although building the Kin Ryu around the original 300 Vlar engine did slow the design down somewhat, the increased survivability gained in return had been felt to be worth the exchange, and by rebuilding the chassis out of endo steel materials the designers were in fact able to improve the weapon loadout considerably.
For a primary weapon the reborn Dragon now sports a Lord's H heavy ppc in place of the extended range model of the 3050's era refit, while a seven tube artemis guided multiple missile launcher mounted in the opposite torso not only gave it the one two punch of the original, but also gained it considerable hitting power at short range as well.
Backing up this formidable one two combination is a single extended range medium laser in the left arm, while a C3 slave added better capability to cooperate with it's lance members.
Finally as with all the rewamps the Kin Ryu got a minor, but noticable, especially to pilots used to the original, face lift, after all it could not hurt to take the chance to do this as well seeing as after all they were rewamping the design almost from scratch.
While slightly slowed down, overall the Kin Ryu has been considered a success and has been well received.
Deployment As of 3077 all current in service Grand Dragons are either slated for updating to the new version, or it's single variant (see variants, below), or have completed the update.
Overall the reception has been, after some initial scepticism, evrything that the designers could have hoped for, and indeed there can be no doubt that the new Dragon is here to stay. Indeed LAW has received more than a few orders for new mechs of the type, although any orders from outside the Combine have been politely declined.
While we do not know for certain if this situation will last, there is no real indication that it will as of this time.
Known Variants The sole variant of the Kin Ryu downgrades the PPC to a ER model and downgrades the MML rack to a five launcher, removing the artemis in the process, but then goes ahead and installs a C3 Master system instead.
Clearly intended as a command mech for both the regular Kin Ryu and the recently unveiled Kami Tora and the Panther 15K, this has also been well received by the pilots assigned to it, as not only is it a version of a signeature Combine design, but also it is quite a mobile command mech without the fragility of using a extra light engine.

Looks like a re-worked Panther with new tech...

Where did the DCMS get the MMLs? Wasn't Battle Magic absorbed by the WoB?
Technically, you could have a MML-7 in the center torso if you had a compact gyro. The year is about when compact gyros are available. But either compact gyros aren't tourney legal, or you couldn't sacrifice the extra weight for the space.
Otherwise, really good design.

This is for my alternate timeline where I rejected the existence of the Toaster lovers.
And as for compact gyroes I am not sold on them at all.
