Continued from the Various Upgraded Designs thread.

This thread examines the Inner Sphere Honor Guard's Atlas, and its use from 3050 to 3081 and beyond.

History:

After suffering heavy losses and losing Gen. Alexander (the old CO) to Clan Jade Falcon forces on Coventry, the ISHG retreated to its home in Caselton to lick its wounds. While others were suffering, one person was gloating. That person was John, a Col. who has been around since the unit was formed in 3039. Vying for the CO position for years, he has attempted numerous times to oust the former CO Alexander. His ultimate plan came into being when the Clans invaded.

Using Alexander's honor against him, John led the unit to the Clan frontline (Coventry) expecting Alex to be killed during the fighting while he stayed back in the dropship command post. While Alex didn't get killed, and was taken bondsman instead, John considered the plan a success, and prepared to take control of the unit. However, he was thwarted by Michael (also a Col. who has been around since the beginning) who was suspicious of his actions, and in a bold counter, put Alex's son Jonas in command.

John has since attempted many underhanded ways to obtain the CO position for himself, and he is still under suspicion to this day. However, no one can doubt the surprising effectiveness of his underhanded tactics on the battlefield.

John's Atlas focuses on long-range bombardment, preferring to hide in the shadows and rain death, than announcing his presence and engaging the enemy. Thus his Atlas mounts twin LRM20s and backup weapons to hold his own if found out. If any underhanded tactics can be used (such as specialized munitions) he will use it. Even using his mech's hands and legs as weapons if it would give him the upper hand. Thus, his personal mech, the AS7-1 came into being.

Below are the MegaMek condensed readouts of the designs (less redundancy and clutter).

This design served John well, until 3062 when Semi-guided munitions came out. Jumping at the chance to use the ISHG's fascination with mounting TAG on all of its mechs to his advantage, John exchanged out the Artemis IV, creating his AS7-2.

This design has not undergone any major changes until the Jihad years, when the WoB conflict and emerging technology prompted John to upgrade his design. This resulted in John's AS7-3.

Other than the stealth armor, John's favorite toy is the demonic iNarc Nemesis pods, which he uses maliciously on enemy mechs to great effect. Not only do the semi-guided missiles from his mech and friendly ISHG mechs redirect, but also those of the enemy's, along with other popular guided munitions. This significantly increases his presence on the battlefield, allowing him to engage enemies directly just long enough to stick a pod on them, before bombarding them from afar. Fear and chaos has followed John in both his subordinates and enemies since then.

When the Jihad ended in 3081, the unit upgraded again with technology that builds upon the Jihad designs, resulting in very advanced designs, sporting technology such as reverse-engineered Void Sig systems, perfected Angel ECMs and CASEIIs. Below is John's final Atlas design, the AS7-X.

After the war, there has been enough collected proof to convict John of conspiracy, and put him on trial before the ISHG. Even though he was sentenced to do time, Jonas surprisingly did not convict him, and has since pardoned him. When asked, Jonas said: "While he may have unorthodox ways of handling situations, his methods have saved the lives of men and women of the ISHG numerous times in battle. In other words, he is too valuable as an asset, to simply lock up and throw away the key."

To this day (Dark Age), John has taken Jonas' mercy to heart, and continues to be the asset Jonas believes he is.

More mechs to follow in separate threads.

May the discussing begin!

Okay to frank the loss of the AC20 makes this not an Atlas. You would be to go with one of the 100 missiles mechs in it's place.

Granted.

The reason I chose the Atlas was primarily for the look. Putting my semi-villan in a mech with a death's head.

But, if it really is that offensive, what would be another good 100 ton missile mech with hands?

It's not offensive, to me it's just not an Atlas. The Salamander comes to mind or take the Catapult and up it to 100 tons.

I think I found a good one. The 100 ton Grand Titan. It has hands and has most of the weapons his mech already has, just without the AMS, large pulse lasers, and the 400XL engine.

Errata: The Jade Falcon assault on Coventry was in 3058, and compact gyros came out in 3068 around the start of the Jihad. Also, while semi-guided munitions technically came out in 3057, they weren't available to the ISHG until 3062. This means John's "1" variant is a 3058 design, and his "3" variant is a 3068 design.

Guess I needed to check the history more.

P.S. It's official. John pilots a Grand Titan now, codenamed T-IT-N(1/2/3/X). All I had to do was change the names.
