Continued from the Various Upgraded Designs thread.
This thread examines the Inner Sphere Honor Guard's use of the Victor from 3050 to 3062 and the ongoing use of the Fafnir, from 3062 to 3081 and beyond.
History:
After suffering heavy losses and losing Gen. Alexander (the old CO) to Clan Jade Falcon forces on Coventry, the ISHG retreated to its home in Caselton to lick its wounds. Now the new CO, Alexander's son Jonas became emotionally unstable at the loss of his father. Deeply, he hoped his father was still alive, and he frequently relied on Michael as a source of comfort, much like a foster father.
Jonas is a sensitive and unique individual. Visually, he is different from everyone else as he has cybernetic eyes (no, not Manei Domini, but for the board game effects they count as such), thus he can be frightening to approach. This is the case for one individual named Deuce, who was unfortunate enough to experience the pseudo-psychic effect of Jonas' cybernetic eyes as he was thrown across a hallway in Jonas' emotional rage at Deuce's incompetence.
Jonas prefers twin gauss rifles, as they mirror the frightening power of his cybernetic enhancements. Since the ISHG was pro-Davion under his father, Jonas chose to convert a VTR-9K Victor into his personal mech.

This design served Jonas well, until around 3062 when the Lyran Alliance produced the Fafnir chassis to showcase their newly developed Heavy Gauss Rifle. Jumping at the chance to get what he called "his ideal mech," Jonas led some raids against Defiance Industries in order to capture one of them. He was successful, and quickly turned the beast into his totem mech, ripping out everything, and creating his personal FNR-1.

This design served Jonas well until the Jihad years, when the WoB conflict and emerging technology prompted Jonas to upgrade his design. This resulted in the FNR-2.

When the Jihad ended in 3081, the unit upgraded again with technology that builds upon the Jihad designs, resulting in very advanced designs, sporting technology such as reverse-engineered Void Sig systems, perfected Angel ECMs and CASEIIs. Below is Jonas' final Fafnir design, the FNR-X.

After the Jihad ended, so did all of the ISHG's internal conflict concerning John. Additionally, Jonas was able to be reunited with his father when his unit clashed with Jade Falcon again. To this day (Dark Age), Jonas is more confident, and full of energy, making him the fitting CO for the ISHG.

Okay the first one reminds me of the D variant of the Vulture, only 20 tons heavier.
The other two look decent enough and I think would do well in a fight.

I'm familiar with that Vulture variant and do enjoy piloting and playing with it.
The Victor was actually a last minute realization that the Fafnir didn't come out in 3050 but 3062ish instead.
So simply focusing on keeping the long range damage of the twin Gauss Rifles, it wasn't a stretch to max the armor, make the engine XL, and add endosteel to the Victor to make that variant.
Truly, the Fafnir was meant to be Jonas' totem mech since it reflects how his cybernetic eyes look on him: bulky but fearsome.

Yeah, I have some ideas about that. Mainly involving raids on Defiance Industries during the Fed Com Civil war.
I also noticed that a 100 ton Devastator could also work as his first mech if just having the gausses isn't enough.
But personally, I like the Victor/Vulture D design. It's simple, it reflects on how Jonas needs the support of others at the time, and it has jump jets and room for 6 tons of ammo.

Errata: The Jade Falcon assault on Coventry was in 3058, and compact gyros came out in 3068 around the start of the Jihad. This means Jonas' Victor is a 3058 design, and his FNR-2 is a 3068 design.
Guess I needed to check the history more. 
FYI, when Jonas lost his father in 3058, he was eighteen years old, and legally old enough to take command.
