==Overview:==
The Vigil is one of the oldest Clan designs still in service. Built at the
start of the Golden Century it was partially based on the Highlander.
Outclassed by mechs such as the War Elephant and Behemoth early on, it quickly
became a second line mech.

==Capabilities:==
The Vigil's armament is highly diverse, mixing lasers with LBX autocannons and
an LRM launcher in an attempt to make it perform multiple roles.

Paired ER Lasers in each weight class are mounted in each arm giving the Vigil
versatile firepower at nearly all ranges. A pair of machineguns provide extra
anti-infantry firepower.

The secondary armament consists of a trio of LB-5X autocannons mounted in the
torso in a similar fashion as the Thunderbolt heavy mech. This unusual
mounting procedure has not prevented the Vigil from being an effective
anti-aircraft platform thanks to its sophisticated targeting system, derived
from the older Rifleman.

The final weaponry is an LRM 10, almost an afterthought, it gives the Vigil
some limited Indirect fire capability.

The main weakness of the Vigil is its slow speed. It cannot cross broken
terrain quickly enough to intercept fast-moving targets, despite its abundance
of long range weaponry since none of them have the one-shot-kill ability seen
on more modern designs armed with Gauss Rifles, LRM 20's or PPC's.

The Vigil is quite well armoured for its class and an ECM offers protection
against more advanced targeting systems.

Because it is slow and mounts all its ammo in its right torso, Vigil pilots
have developed a tactic that involves presenting the mech's left side to the
enemy. Often the right flank is covered by a starmate to dissuade the enemy
from flanking the Vigil.

==Battle History:==
Being an older design, the Vigil sees little combat, and is widely available
to most clans. As a result attrition rates are quite low and spare parts are
easy to come by.

Despite its age it's still a capable design as was shown during Operation
Bulldog, where a number of Smoke Jaguar Vigils confrontedthe SLDF in a number
of hard-fought engagements.

The Inner Sphere's unfamiliarity with this design led to some nasty surprises.
But even their presence helped little to turn the tide of battle.

==Variants:==
The original Virgil mounted bulkier Star-League weapons, which reduced the
armour and heat sinks of this design. According to Clan Wolf information only
half a handful remain in storage scattered among the Clans.

==Deployment==
Most Clans deploy a few dozen of these machines in their second-line and
garrison forces. It is believed Clan Blood Spirit fields the most Vigils at
this moment and may even have a production line should the need for more
arise. Clan Hellion has used a few for training purposes since the diverse
armament matches that seen on some omnimech configurations.

Nice harasser! Very well rounded and the triple LB-Xs give it a lot of dual roles it can cover. Nice job!
