==Overview:==
In a similar vein to the Heretic, the latest offering from Heretic BattleMechs is the EXR-01X Exorcist... It differs however, by now incorporating differing technology within the design process. 50 Tons was chosen for the Maximum, as heavier BattleMechs have always been the choice of the Alliance, few manafacturing facilities would be willing to shut down popular lines for untried chassis.
Even more of a Brawler than the Heretic, the Exorcist is designed to stand up to 'Mechs larger than it, and punish them liberally. However, it works best as a Close Support BattleMech, as its long range capabilities are fairly lackluster.
==Capabilities:==
With an average walking speed of 43.2 klicks and an estimated running of up to 64.8, its not the fastest lady out there, but for Close support and Brawling, it is more than Adequate. Its Left arm mounted Defiance B3L Large Laser is almost an exact copy of the system utilised on the Heretic, only further reinforced and armoured. Again, it is slaved to a Nashan Diversified Targeting Computer. However, the rest of the Exorcist is Radically different. As its secondary Primary weapon, and in the fasion of the Chimaera and Akuma BattleMechs, the Exorcist packs an absolutely massive MRM-40 System in its Right Torso. Although often derided as Dummy Rockets, the Draconis designed (Blue Shot Manafactured) Medium Range Missile System can throw out exorberant amounts of ammunition. Indeed, the rate of fire is so high, that the 480 Warheads loaded into the Cellular Ammunition Bins on the Exorcist can last a hasty 'MechWarrior a scant Two Minutes on a crowded BattleField...
Luckily, backup weapons are provided in the form of a Trio of Randall "Hellbitch" Medium Lasers, slaved to the same Targeting System as the Large Laser, but interspaced around the 'mech with one in the Wrist of the Articulated Hand on the Right Arm, and the other two nestled underneath the main engine cowling in the Centre Torso.
Unfortunately, the Heat Curve of the Exorcist can be quite unmanagable for a novice user... Although supplied with what seems to be ample ammunition, the biggest drawback of the Missile Launcher is the massive amounts of heat generated when they launch, restricting a mobile Exorcist MechWarrior to secondary weapons, lest he make things too difficult on himself...
Loganecker PlastiSteel once again contributed Ferro Fibrous armour to the design, with Heretic BattleMechs seemingly unwilling to risk haphazard and expensive supply of Endo Steel, and pulling from Coventry Metal Works' ample supply of standard structure.
The Exorcist however, lacks the substantial capability to deal with smaller, lighter BattleMechs - although its Lasers are highly accurate, the Dead-Fire Rockets work best when used against things which have trouble getting out of the way of the wall of explosive death it throws out...
As a side note, teething Problems with the MRM Launcher have stalled development of the Exorcist . As a secondary effect to the excessive heat buildup, the fuels used in the missiles burn very dirtily, and seem to coat the upper portions of the BattleMech in soot after continuous firings... The Laser Crystals in particular need extra attention, lest their performance be degraded. Blue Shot are intending to rectify this problem immediately
==Variants:==
Once again, like the Heretic, the Exorcist has been developed with some customablity in mind. However, with more integral systems, the only effective one is once again, replacement of the Lyran Built Light Engine with a more standard design. The simplest version of the Refit encompasses the removal of the Targeting Computer. More likely, as with the Heretic, it is generally understood that once Heretic BattleMechs is completely off the ground and making a fair production model, they will offer a variant with the Standard Engine fitted, to make it easier on those forces who do not want to rely on the capabilities of their technicians to perform such a delicate and costly refit.
Designers Notes:
Seriously, I do NOT know what I was drinking when I thought that this could be a feasable design... Whatever it was, I wish I had more of it now... I could do with a shot or thirty.
I don't think the MRM 40 was ever designed to be truly utilised. The 30 seems to be well balanced in a massive 'Mech like the Akuma, but the '40 is just... Excessive...
Sure, a Pair of LRM-20s would probably be more effective, but this is just for serious 'ack!' factor... No-one likes the idea of being hit with something which is virtually guaranteed to make them roll a piloting skill roll just if it hits... And I am well ware its one hell of an 'if' it hits.
I don't have a miniature for this one yet... But I envision something similar to a Chimaera crossed with a Sentinel, for the Gun Arm, Hand Arm look... It will be ugly and ungainly... More Frankensteiny than a Cataphract!
And on a side note, a serious enough refit could probably squeeze in a Gauss Rifle instead of the launcher and medium laser system, turning it into some sort of freaky 50 Ton Hollander Knockoff, only worse......
I don't know what else to say about this, other than it would have a niche market... Plenty of Character though!
