Overview:
The SLDF field workshops were famous for their conversion work on existing
mechs. Much of this was applied to battle-damaged machines. Many
modifications were minor, but once in a while Techs came up with unusual and
ingenious designs.

The Warhammer 6XP was based on a refit of the original 6R, which added double
strength heat sinks and ferro fibrous armour. The upgrade did not alter the
number of heat sinks. While this solved the Warhammer's heat problem, it
wasted cooling ability.

When a Warhammer was brought in for repairs, Techs working on a Shadow Hawk hit
upon the idea to replace the SRM6 launcher with a third PPC, on a mount similar
to the one seen on the Shadow Hawk's AC/5.

Capabilities:
The Warhammer 6XP carried a powerful long-range punch, only matched by the much
heavier Awesome.

Techs canibalized an AC/5 mount from a Shadow Hawk and mounted it on the
Warhammer's right shoulder, removing the SRM6. The autocannon mount proved
more than able to carry the PPC, being lighter and having no recoil.

The 6XP soon was adopted by other workshops and many were used as fire support
mechs with heavy companies.

The 6XP was very effective in long range combat and soon caught media
attention. Star League intelligence even doctored some footage with a version
mounting four PPC's leading the major houses to scramble to come up with an
answer.

Though only about 30 machines were ever modified, plans to upgrade the
Warhammer to this new configuration were prematurely aborted by the Civil War.

Variants:
By 3067, a small company offered an upgrade package for older 6R models based
on the 6XP, the only difference being the replacement of the standard medium
lasers with ER models.

It is an Awesome in all but name, but I had this vision of a Warhammer with a third "over the shoulder" Donal ...

An Awesome, yes, as was acknowledged. Plus faster and lighter, which is always a step up, and with better short range backup. And, probably a bit better heatsinked, too. The only thing an Awesome's got on this Warhammer is armor (8Q) and range if its an 9Q.

I like it for its upgrade concept, and the fluff bit about using an AC5s weapon mount to add the PPC was a cool idea. The AC5 now has a new niche, thankfully not as a primary weapon!

Certainly fits nicely as a Field-Refit, and nicely fluffed too...
