Overview: Designated the firefox By the Clans. the Desert Is a 40 ton medium mech designed to fufill the high mobilty long distance harrasser role. with it's light PPC's and a Medium pulse laser as a token close range armamment incase the enemy get's too close.
Capabilities: The overall capabilities of the Derset are to be able to sttack from afar at the same time move from position to position to prevent itself from being hit often. it main defense becomes it'a strongest offence as when a enemy is weak enough and get's close enough it uses it's medium pulse laser to finish the job.

I think the medium pulse laser is a good weapon if deployed towards its strengths. So, kudos on the attempt. This is a good example of how the LPPC can be used like an AC 5.
Given the era you are working in, an ER Medium Laser will get you better results and flexibility than the pulse. With the double heat sinks go with 2 ERML; I know it is more heat, but you won't be jumping every turn. Or split the 2 tons between a ERML and an anit-infantry weapon.
If you wanted a short-range harasser with a LPPC so you didn't get ranged, then MPLs are OK. MPLs don't make good backup weapons because they are heavy and have a very narrow band in which they are effective. If you are at the back-up weapons stage you need a generalist not a specialist. MPLs are primary weapons because to get anything but frustration and disappointment out of them you have to focus on getting them in range. If your plan of attack works for this mech, you'll never fire the pulse laser. Thus you said "token." 2 tons is a lot of token on a 40 ton mech. 5% of its weight and 25% of this mech's weapon weight.

I see.. anyway feel free to look at my unmanned mech as well. it's 45 tons and is capable of acting independently from remote control.
